"It is equally important to educate men"

Rajkummar Rao and Mouni Roy openly discuss the stigma surrounding sex in India. It is an evident theme that will be showcased in their upcoming film Made in China (2020).

According to a recent interview with India Forums, Rajkummar Rao and Mouni Roy candidly spoke about sex as a taboo topic.

The film follows the story of a failed Gujarati businessman who wants to make something out of his life. Rajkummar explains:

“It is his (Ragu, played by Rajkummar) whole journey from rags to riches and how he lands up in China accidentally. And how he gets this recipe from there and thinks of selling this idea to people.”

In this instance, the recipe is a sex soup that is supposedly better than Viagra. He goes on to speak about the growing success of Bollywood in China. He states:

“Our films are doing so well in China. It’s a huge market for our Hindi films.”

India is known as the land of Kama Sutra but sex is not freely discussed in India. Rajkummar and Mouni were asked for their thoughts on sex. Mouni explained:

“I think it has been a taboo for too long and I really think it is important to include it in our curriculum from an age that it should be included in.

“I don’t think how only we keep talking about ‘beti parho beti bitchao’ (educate your daughter, save your daughter).

“And I think it is equally important to educate men. So, while growing they know how to address that and if there is some problem.”

She continues to mention how there should be no shame in visiting a sex clinic:

“I am talking about a very holistic view in general, so in that way, if you are open about something then you know like he (Rajkummar Rao) keeps saying this in all the interviews that it’s a problem.

“Like how you can have a fever or a cold and you have to go to the doctors. If you have any sexual problems you go visit a gynaecologist.”

Rajkummar added to the conversation, he said:

“I think as she (Mouni) said sex education is very important in our education system.”

“It should be there because still there are so many misconceptions about sex and sexual problems.

“That’s the reason when you read everyday newspapers there’s an article asking some really random questions because they are unaware, they are not educated about it.

“It is high time that we start taking it seriously because people need to be aware of sex and its benefits and its problems.”

Made in China is set to release on October 25, 2019. We look forward to watching this film on the big screen.
