"I’ve always had one eye on the West."
Harsh Varrdhan Kapoor has opened up about his audition for the Hollywood film The White Tiger.
Kapoor said that he auditioned for the film alongside several other Hollywood projects – and almost got the part.
However, he revealed that in the end, the filmmakers chose Rajkummar Rao over him.
In a recent interview, Kapoor admitted that he has “one eye” on the West, and dreamt of making his Hollywood debut.
He said he would love to work in Hollywood if given the chance, and that he believes in “the power of manifestation” to make it happen.
In an exclusive interview with Bollywood Bubble, Kapoor said:
“Might happen, fingers crossed. I’ve always had one eye on the West.
“I think my way of working, what I’ve been exposed to… I don’t think I would be out of place.
“But obviously, it’s beyond my control. If something happens, I promise I’ll work very hard and seize the opportunity…
“It’s a door that I definitely want to open up for myself.”
On the subject of his White Tiger audition, Harsh Varrdhan Kapoor said that the filmmakers thought he would look too young opposite Priyanka Chopra.
Therefore the role went to Rajkummar Rao, although they said they liked him.
Speaking of his Hollywood dream almost coming true, Kapoor said:
“The White Tiger, I auditioned for Rajkummar Rao’s role. I almost got it, as well. They really liked me for it.
“But when Priyanka (Chopra) came on board, they wanted a slightly older actor, I looked very young.
“I am a lot younger, and Raj is such a phenomenal actor, but that was kind of a close call.”
The White Tiger debuted on Netflix in January 2021 and went on to receive an Oscar nomination for Best Adapted Screenplay.
On the work front, Harsh Varrdhan Kapoor recently appeared in Vasan Bala’s Spotlight, one of four films in the Netflix anthology series Ray.
As well as this, Kapoor has signed up for a biopic of shooter Abhinav Bindra. He will feature in it alongside his father, Anil Kapoor.
Harsh Varrdhan Kapoor has also made headlines recently for confirming a highly speculated Bollywood relationship.
Rumours had been circulating for months as to whether Bollywood stars Katrina and Kaif and Vicky Kaushal were dating.
Now it has been officially confirmed, and Kapoor was the one to break the news.
Kapoor outed the pair during an appearance on the Zoom TV show By Invite Only.
During the show, he was asked to name a Bollywood relationship rumour that is true and not a PR stunt. The actor replied:
“Vicky and Katrina are together, that’s true.”
