"They pressurised us by saying Salman Khan will come"
Salman Khan, his sister Alvira Agnihotri Khan and six others have been accused of fraud by a Chandigarh-based businessman.
Police said that apart from the actor and his sister, those called for an inquiry on July 13, 2021, to verify facts of the complaint included the Being Human Foundation CEO and officials of Style Quotient (licensee of Being Human Jewellery).
Local businessman Arun Gupta claimed he was conned by the actor’s charity.
He said that in 2018, he had opened a store under the name of Being Human Jewellery, investing around Rs. 2 Crore (£193,000).
Mr Gupta alleged that two Being Human employees had asked him to open the store as part of a franchise.
The complainant went on to say that they pressured him to do so.
According to Mr Gupta, the workers said they would provide all kinds of backup and also promote the brand.
They also promised that Salman Khan would be part of the grand opening.
Mr Gupta said: “Two Being Human employees told me that asked me to open a franchise for Being Human. We agreed.
“They told us the cost of investment was Rs. 2 Crore.
“They pressurised us by saying Salman Khan will come for the opening of the showroom.”
However, promotion commitments were not fulfilled nor goods were delivered to Mr Gupta for his store.
Mr Gupta said that he repeatedly contacted company officials but they refused to keep their promises.
He also alleged that the office, which was to be used for collecting stock, had been shut since February 2020.
In the complaint, Mr Gupta said he had been promised that Salman Khan would be there for the store’s grand opening.
However, when it came to the day, Mr Gupta claimed that instead, Salman’s brother-in-law Aayush Sharma turned up.
Mr Gupta added: “They called us for a meet-and-greet with Salman Khan.
“I met him and he promised me. Now 1.5 years have passed and I have not received anything.”
“Salman did not reply to my letters.”
Mr Gupta has requested the police to file an FIR in this case.
Chandigarh SP Ketan Bansal said:
“They have been given till July 13 to reply. If there’s anything criminal, action will be taken.”
On the work front, Salman was last seen in Radhe: Your Most Wanted Bhai.
He has several films lined up including Antim: The Final Truth and Tiger 3.
