"there is a whole gang working against me"
AR Rahman has shocked fans after opening up about the reason behind having less work.
The renowned composer, who has recently been composing music in fewer films, said that a “Bollywood gang” is to blame for a lack of work.
The startling revelation came a month after the tragic death of Sushant Singh Rajput, who took his own life after suffering from depression for several months.
His death resulted in conversations about nepotism, “Bollywood mafias” and other “elements” that exist within Bollywood.
It has been reported that these factors have been preventing artists from being part of potential projects and future opportunities.
Rahman had composed the music for Sushant’s final film Dil Bechara.
In an interview, he revealed why “good movies” were not coming to him.
Rahman, who has Oscars for Best Original Score and Best Original Song, revealed:
“I don’t say no to good movies, but I think there is a gang, which, due to misunderstandings, is spreading some false rumours.”
He went on to recall one incident, relating to the fake stories about him.
“When Mukesh Chhabra came to me, I gave him four songs in two days.
“He told me, ‘Sir, how many people said don’t go, don’t go to him (AR Rahman) and they told me stories after stories’.
“I heard that, and I realised, yeah okay, now I understand why I am doing less (work in Hindi films) and why the good movies are not coming to me.
“I am doing dark movies, because there is a whole gang working against me, without them knowing that they are doing harm.”
AR Rahman added:
“People are expecting me to do stuff, but there is another gang of people preventing that from happening.”
“It is fine because I believe in destiny and I believe that everything comes from God. So, I am taking my movies and doing my other stuff.”
The composer’s fans were shocked by his revelations and sided with him, pointing out that Rahman never usually speaks out.
