Anjana had already gained fame as an accomplished dancer
Veteran actress Anjana Rahman passed away on January 4, 2025, at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) hospital.
She had been battling a persistent fever since early December and was admitted to a private hospital on December 22, 2024.
After several days in the Coronary Care Unit (CCU), she was transferred to BSMMU, where tests revealed a severe blood infection.
The news of her passing has deeply saddened the Bangladeshi film industry and her fans.
Misha Sawdagor, President of the Film Artistes Association, announced that her body would be taken to FDC.
There, her colleagues and admirers will be able to pay their last respects.
The first janaza will be held there, followed by another at Banani graveyard, where she will be laid to rest.
Born on June 27, 1965, Anjana began her illustrious career with the film Dasyu Bonhur, based on Romena Afaz’s popular series.
Directed by Shamsuddin Togor and starring Sohel Rana, the movie was both a critical and commercial success, establishing her as a rising star.
Around the same time, she appeared in Setu, showcasing her range and versatility.
Before her film debut, Anjana had already gained fame as an accomplished dancer, earning the prestigious title of Asia’s best dancer.
However, Dasyu Bonhur changed her life, propelling her into stardom.
Her signing fee for the film, Tk 20,000, was considered significant at the time.
She solidified her reputation with her third film, Priyo Bandhobi, directed by Motaleb Hossain.
Her collaboration with renowned filmmaker Khan Ataur Rahman brought her further acclaim in Matir Maya.
Starring opposite Farooque, the film was a massive success, earning widespread praise.
Her fifth film, Ashikkhito, directed by Azizur Rahman and co-starring Nayak Raj Razzak, was another monumental hit, resonating deeply with audiences across Bangladesh.
In an interview, Anjana Rahman fondly remembered the overwhelming support during the premiere of Dasyu Bonhur.
Watching thousands cheer for her at Gulistan Cinema Hall was a defining moment in her career.
Throughout her journey, Anjana starred in over 300 films, working alongside industry legends like Nayak Raj Razzak in 30 films.
Her portrayal of Lolita in Parineeta, directed by Alamgir Kabir, won her the prestigious National Film Award, further cementing her legacy.
Her contribution to Bangladeshi cinema remains unparalleled.
