Anita Rani says She is 'Fuelled by Rage'

"I don't think I am at a place of peace with it."

In a revealing interview with Good Housekeeping’s June issue, Anita Rani shares insights into her life after announcing her separation from her husband of 14 years.

The Bradford-born presenter is known for her roles on BBC Radio 4’s Woman’s Hour, BBC One’s Countryfile, and Channel 4’s Aldi’s Next Big Thing.

Now living in her own flat in London, Rani is embracing the single life and the new opportunities it brings.

Rani’s debut novel, ‘Baby Does A Runner,’ which explores the journey of a British Asian woman in search of her identity, was released in paperback in June 2023.

The novel touches on themes of generational trauma, a topic Anita Rani is personally connected to.

“I don’t think I am at a place of peace with it,” she admits, discussing her own experiences with cultural inequalities and how they’ve fuelled her drive and ambition.

Transforming her flat into a personal sanctuary, Rani describes it as her “Parisienne dream house,” with cream drapes, white floorboards, a dusky pink bedroom, and a dressing room that brings her joy.

This physical transformation mirrors her internal journey towards finding peace and empowerment in her newfound independence.

Despite the challenges, Anita Rani’s outlook on life remains optimistic and driven.

“I’m a very happy, optimistic person fuelled by rage!” she declares, highlighting her determination to fight against the inequalities she observed growing up in a Punjabi family.

This fire inside her not only drives her career but also her aspirations for the future.

Looking ahead, Anita Rani is excited about the possibilities that lie before her.

From taking Woman’s Hour on the road to hosting her own talk show and adapting her book into a film or TV show, she is keen on changing the landscape for the next generation of Asian women.

“I’m right at the beginning of my chapter two and there’s so much more I want to do,” she says, signalling her readiness to embark on new adventures.
