The Covid-19 pandemic has brought much of the world to a standstill and it has seen numerous Bollywood stars test positive for the virus.

Kanika Kapoor was the first Indian celebrity to announce that she had contracted the virus.

The singer had returned to Mumbai from London in March 2020. She then reportedly hosted a party in Lucknow.

Soon after, she took to Instagram to announce that she had tested positive for Covid-19.

Kanika said she began noticing symptoms and subsequently took a test which turned out to be positive.

Since Kanika contracted the virus, we have seen a number of Bollywood stars who have contracted the virus. Here are seven of them.

Amitabh Bachchan

Amitabh Bachchan was the first high-profile Bollywood actor to test positive for Covid-19.

In July 2020, the iconic actor announced that he was in hospital and was undergoing tests.

He had written: “I have tested Covid positive .. shifted to Hospital .. hospital informing authorities .. family and staff undergone tests, results awaiting.

“All that have been in close proximity to me in the last 10 days are requested to please get themselves tested!”

Celebrities and fans sent their well wishes to Amitabh.

Following his announcement, it was revealed his son Abhishek Bachchan had also tested positive for coronavirus while his wife Aishwarya Rai had tested negative. She later contracted the virus.

Ranbir Kapoor

Amidst India’s vaccination drive in 2021, Ranbir Kapoor tested positive.

His mother, Neetu Kapoor, confirmed the news on social media. Neetu had also tested positive for the virus in the past.

Neetu Kapoor took to Instagram and shared the news of her son’s positive test.

The post came on Tuesday, March 9, 2021.

The caption read: “Thank you for your concern and your good wishes.

“Ranbir has tested positive for Covid-19. He is on medication and recovering well.”

“He is in self-quarantine at home and following all precautions.”

Ranbir’s positive test led to the trailer announcement promo shoot of Brahmastra to be postponed.

Arjun Kapoor

Arjun Kapoor is another celebrity to have caught Covid-19.

The actor contracted the virus in September 2020.

He took to social media and explained that he was showing no symptoms and was isolating at his home.

Arjun wrote: “It is my duty to inform all of you that I have tested positive for coronavirus. I’m feeling ok and I’m asymptomatic.

“I have isolated myself at home under the advice of doctors and authorities and will be under home quarantine.

“I thank you all in advance for your support and I will keep you all updated about my health in the days to come.

“These are extraordinary times and I have faith that all of humanity will overcome this virus. Much love, Arjun.”

Malaika Arora

Around the same time as Arjun Kapoor, his girlfriend Malaika Arora also reportedly tested positive for Covid-19.

She is said to have contracted Covid-19 while filming for the dance reality show, India’s Best Dancer in which she is a judge.

Shooting for the dance reality show was halted after several crew members tested positive for Covid-19.

According to several reports, Malaika had also tested positive for the virus, although she did not officially confirm the news.

Kartik Aaryan

Kartik Aaryan is one of the latest Bollywood stars to test positive for Covid-19.

Kartik, who has been filming Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2, took to social media to tell fans he had coronavirus.

He wrote: “Positive ho gaya.”

Kartik then asked his fans to pray for him.

The actor had walked the ramp for Manish Malhotra at Lakme Fashion Week and was accompanied by his Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 co-star Kiara Advani.

Following his positive test, Kiara took a test and it was found to be negative.

As a result, shooting for Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 has been temporarily postponed.

It will resume only after precautions are taken and guidelines are followed.

Aamir Khan

Another high-profile Bollywood star to contract Covid-19 is Aamir Khan.

A spokesperson for the actor announced the news and said that Aamir is currently self-isolating at his home.

The spokesperson also advised those who recently came in contact with the actor should get themselves tested.

In a statement, the spokesperson said:

“Mr Aamir Khan has tested positive for Covid 19. He is at home in self-quarantine, following all the protocols and he’s doing fine.

“All those who came in contact with him in the recent past should get themselves tested as a precautionary measure.

“Thank you for all your wishes and concern.”

Satish Kaushik

Veteran actor and filmmaker Satish Kaushik announced on March 17, 2021, that he had contracted Covid-19.

He took to social media and informed his fans:

“Attention please!! I have been tested Covid positive.

“I would request everyone to get tested, who came in contact with me in the last few days.

“I am home quarantined. Your love, best wishes & blessings will help. Thanks.”

However, just days after his announcement, Satish was taken to hospital.

Fortunately, a spokesperson said he was doing well.

“Satish ji was planning to get vaccinated for Covid-19, however when he got tested after experiencing some weakness, he tested positive.

“He quarantined at home for two days, but he decided to get admitted at the hospital for proper medical care.”

“He is grateful to his family, friends and well-wishers who are praying for his speedy recovery.”

The likes of Kriti Sanon, Sanjay Leela Bhansali and Varun Dhawan have also tested positive for Covid-19 in the past.

Although India continues to vaccinated citizens, the country has seen an increase in cases.

Sadly this means that it is likely that more Bollywood stars will contract the virus.

Hopefully, things take a turn for the better and some form of normality resumes.
