Deepika Padukone has been at the centre of a scandal in recent months.
In September 2025, it was announced that the producers of Kalki 2898 AD (2024) had dropped Deepika from its sequel.
The original film saw the actress in the role of SUM-80 ‘Sumathi’, a pregnant lab subject of Project K and the prophesied mother of Kalki.
Producers stated that the film required “commitment”, which led many to question Deepika Padukone’s work ethic.
Recently, an old clip of Deepika was shared, after which netizens declared that removing her from the project was the right decision.
The clip was from the sixth season of Koffee With Karan in 2018.
In an episode, Deepika appeared as a guest alongside Alia Bhatt.
During the Rapid Fire segment, host Karan Johar asked Deepika: “What’s the first thing you notice about a man?”
Without saying anything, Deepika lowered her eyes with a cheeky grin, hinting that she noticed penises.
This caused Karan to erupt in laughter, while Alia turned away.

However, it is important to highlight that Koffee With Karan is known for its frivolous banter, and Deepika’s action was most likely made in jest.
One viewer noted this and said: “This is a f***ing joke. You can’t even take a joke as you are so boring and hateful.”
Deepika Padukone also exited Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s upcoming film Spirit, and was replaced by Triptii Dimri.
In a recent interview, Deepika alleged that overworking was normalised in Bollywood.
Meanwhile, on the professional front, Deepika will next be seen in King.
It marks her sixth film with Shah Rukh Khan, and her fourth collaboration with director Siddharth Anand.
