Amir Khan wants to become Sports Minister of Pakistan

British boxer Amir Khan has said that he wants to develop sports in Pakistan and stated that he could make it happen by becoming the country’s Sports Minister.

It was reported that the former unified world champion was “disappointed” with Prime Minister Imran Khan’s performance and that he has done nothing for sports in Pakistan.

However, on November 22, 2019, Amir clarified his comments and explained that he did not intend to criticise the PM. Instead, he revealed a new demand.

Amir said that he wants to become the Sports Minister of Pakistan.

Despite his international success, Amir is always looking to give back by improving the standard of sports in Pakistan.

The boxer said: “I am willing to put myself forward as the Sports Minister of Pakistan to help and also to liaise ease with Imran Khan.

“At the same time, it will take the pressure off him.”

Khan explained that giving him the Sports Minister role will help Imran Khan because he will know that “somebody is controlling that side of sports for him.”

The welterweight fighter added that the PM was doing a great job for Pakistan but his busy schedule meant he did not have time to focus on sports.

Khan stated that appointing him a minister will benefit Imran Khan as well as the country of Pakistan.

He revealed that he was not putting pressure on Imran Khan and did not blame him for the lack of sports development in the country.

Amir Khan praised the Prime Minister, saying that he was doing a lot of things to make Pakistan better and stronger.

Amir had previously claimed that the PM had “not done much for sports.” He said:

“So you know even though he is a great person but for sports, he has not done nothing.”

“Being a sportsman he has not done anything for sports.”

He added that “all the people in Pakistan are crying” and also credited himself for being “the only person that does anything for sports.”

Amir told Geo News that he was taking Pakistani boxers “around the world to put them into matches.”

Amir Khan has always sought to develop the level of Pakistani sports. In 2018, he launched the country’s first professional boxing league.

The Super Boxing League (SBL) was to help talented boxers turn professional and to give them a platform.

He believed that the SBL could produce more boxing champions in Pakistan with the right training and attitude.
