"Well said Amir, let’s not let these racists divide us!!!"
Amir Khan issued a desperate plea for peace amid fears that violent riots across the UK will continue.
The former boxer took to X as he urged young people not to “get caught up in the mess” and that “we all should stand for peace, that’s all that matters”.
He also asked people to “let the police do what they do best. Look after our streets and look after us”.
On August 7, 2024, communities were on high alert due to possible “planned unrest” across Greater Manchester.
Mosque leaders urged people to “be vigilant” and some businesses were closed.
Police across the UK had been monitoring reports of at least 30 possible gatherings and threats against immigration law specialists.
A list of solicitors’ firms and advice agencies had been shared in chat groups as possible targets for gatherings, with the message inviting people to “mask up” if they attend.
Disorder hit towns and cities across the UK following the fatal stabbings of three girls at a Taylor Swift-themed dance club in Southport.
The suspect was Axel Muganwa Rudakubana, who was born in the UK.
However, incorrect claims that he was an asylum seeker who arrived in the UK on a small boat spread on social media and appeared to have fuelled the unrest.
Amir Khan also spoke of his shock about the ongoing riots and how he wanted to speak directly to his followers about what has been happening.
As a proud British fighter, I’ve enjoyed support, respect and love from every community across the UK who were always so proud to see me represent my country. That is who we are. We’ll never let racism divide us again. Stay safe and peaceful. pic.twitter.com/NnG3pHVspv

Amir Khan shared a subsequent post which revealed that far-right rioters did not turn up in Bolton.
Instead, locals held a counter-protest, standing up to racism and holding placards with the slogan:
“Refugees welcome. Stop the far right.”
Hometown of Bolton was expecting far right thugs to come out on force… they didn’t show their faces and were countered by this group. Bolton is diverse, anti racist and proud @LauraKhanNews @AlJazeera pic.twitter.com/5pepl27P0I
