“There are plenty of other terms Allu Arjun could use"
Allu Arjun, who is gearing up for the release of Pushpa 2: The Rule, has found himself embroiled in a legal controversy.
Just days before the film’s premiere, a police complaint was lodged against the actor.
The complaint was over his recent use of the term “army” to describe his fanbase, drawing criticism from some quarters.
The complaint was filed by Srinivas Goud, president of the Peace Environment and Water Harvesting Foundation, at Jawahar Nagar Police Station in Hyderabad.
Goud expressed concerns that equating a fanbase with an “army” diminishes the honour associated with the military.
He claimed the military stands as a symbol of national defence and sacrifice.
In a statement, he said: “The term ‘army’ represents those who protect our nation, and it should not be used loosely.
“There are plenty of other terms Allu Arjun could use to address his fans.”
This incident arose after Allu Arjun’s remarks at a promotional event in Mumbai, where he described his fans as more than just followers.
Expressing gratitude for their unwavering support, he said:
“I don’t have fans; I have an army.
“They are like my family – standing by me, celebrating me, and supporting me like an army. I dedicate this film to all of you if it becomes a massive success.”
Over the years, Allu Arjun has consistently referred to his supporters as his “army”, a term that resonates with his massive and passionate fan following.
Despite the controversy, excitement for Pushpa 2 remains at an all-time high.
Slated for release on December 5, 2024, the sequel to the 2021 blockbuster Pushpa: The Rise sees Allu Arjun reprising his iconic role as Pushpa Raj.
The first instalment broke records, with its Hindi-dubbed version becoming a massive success in particular.
Reflecting on this success, Allu recently shared his initial doubts about entering Bollywood, a dream he once thought was unattainable.
Speaking at a promotional event, he recounted a conversation with music composer Devi Sri Prasad.
“I told him that breaking into Bollywood felt impossible for me but would be easier for him as a composer.
“He replied, ‘Why don’t you do a Hindi film? If you do, I’ll join you’.”
“At the time, the thought of working in Bollywood seemed like an unreachable goal.”
Now, with Pushpa 2, Allu Arjun’s aspirations of connecting with audiences nationwide are being realised.
He remarked: “The Telugu audience has supported me for two decades and shaped my career.
“I wanted to make them proud on a national level. With Pushpa, I aimed to showcase the strength of Telugu cinema to the entire country.”
