Indian television actor Manmeet Grewal reportedly committed suicide at his residence on Friday 15 May 2020.

It was reported the Aadat Se Major (2017-2018) actor hung himself on Friday night at around 9.30 pm.

His untimely demise comes shortly after the loss of two Bollywood stars Irrfan Khan and Rishi Kapoor.

Television actor Sachin Kumar, most famously known for his role in Star Plus’ Kahaani Ghar Ghar Kii (2000-2008) also passed away from a cardiac arrest.

According to ABP News, the 32-year-old actor was depressed due to the coronavirus lockdown which halted shooting.

As a result of this, it affected his income. Manmeet, who lived with his wife in rented flat in Kharghar, Navi Mumbai was allegedly struggling with debt.

His grief from financial struggles was heightened amid the lockdown. It was claimed he was unable to pay rent for his flat and suffered depression because of low income.

Manjit Singh Rajput, Manmeet Grewal’s friend and producer said:

“Manmeet was facing financial issues for several days. He took a loan worth of lakhs for personal and professional work.

“However, he was not able to earn anything due to the lockdown and couldn’t repay the borrowed money.

“He took the drastic step because of the financial crunch.”

Speaking to Mumbai Mirror, sub-inspector at Kharghar Police Station, Ajit Kamble said:

“His wife was eating dinner in the kitchen when he went to the bedroom and apparently hung himself from the ceiling fan with a dupatta.”

Reportedly, his wife heard a chair falling and rushed to the bedroom to check where she found Manmeet hanging from the fan.

The report continued to reveal that Manmeet’s wife received no help after she found her husband’s body.

People, including doctors and police who arrived at the spot, refused to help Manmeet’s wife because of fears over COVID-19.

It was not until the guard helped her, that she was able to get Manmeet taken to Panvel Rural hospital where he was declared dead.

According to Spotboye, Manmeet Grewal’s co-star, Anuj Pandit expressed his shock over his death. He said:

“I also got to know about this disappointing news via one of our co-stars and it is something unbelievable.”

“He was one of the most jolly people I have come across. When we used to shoot for our show, you could never make out even if he is stress.”

His inability to repay loans and the depression caused by several projects on hold due to COVID-19 contributed to his untimely demise.
