The remark left Tanu feeling humiliated.
A young woman’s death in Lucknow has triggered widespread concern after police linked her suicide to emotional distress within her family environment.
The incident was reported from Indira Nagar, where 28-year-old Tanu Singh was found dead inside her home.
According to Indian media reports, the woman allegedly took her own life following a remark made by her husband.
Family members told investigators that Tanu had long dreamed of pursuing a career in the modelling industry.
Relatives said she was deeply interested in fashion, appearance, and often practised poses while imagining future success.
Despite her enthusiasm, sources claimed her ambitions were not taken seriously by her husband and extended family.
Instead of encouragement, she allegedly faced repeated discouragement, which gradually affected her emotional and mental state.
On the day of the incident, Tanu was reportedly speaking excitedly about her looks and long term career goals.
During that conversation, her husband Rahul Singh allegedly joked about her appearance in front of family members.
According to relatives, he casually referred to her as a “monkey”, a comment that deeply upset her.
Family sources said the remark left Tanu feeling humiliated and emotionally wounded in her own household.
Soon after, she reportedly went to her room, locked the door, and stopped responding to calls.
Initially, relatives believed she would calm down and rejoin them after some time.
When she failed to come out for an extended period, Rahul reportedly looked through a window in concern.
What he saw shocked the family, as Tanu had hung herself.
Police were immediately informed, and officers arrived at the residence shortly afterwards.
The body was taken into custody and sent for a postmortem examination to determine exact circumstances.
Investigators also recorded statements from family members present inside the house at the time.
Speaking to the media, police said: “Preliminary investigations suggest she was extremely sensitive about her appearance and ambitions.”
Officials added that her emotional investment in modelling may have made her particularly vulnerable to criticism.
Police believe the husband’s remark could have caused severe distress, pushing her into a fragile mental state.
Authorities also examined whether there was any history of domestic abuse.
However, officers stated that no concrete evidence of sustained violence or harassment has been found so far.
Tanu Singh’s death serves as a tragic reminder of the need for empathy and supportive communication inside households.
