"I heard about rent-to-rent serviced accommodation with Airbnb."
A woman who grew up on a council estate now makes £10,000 a month after setting up her own business.
When she was 16 years old, Lina Akhtar promised her mother that she would be rich so she could retire her.
Lina revealed she grew up on a council estate and relied on government benefits. At one point, her family were homeless.
She was the first person from her family to go to university and graduated with a first-class degree with the hopes of getting a well-paid job.
Lina got her first job, earning £18,000 a year.
However, it was very draining as she had to commute four hours a day, costing £500 a month. This meant she was waking up at 5 am and getting home at 8 pm.
Lina said: “I had no time for myself.
“Every weekend would fly by, and it was Monday again.”
The job took its toll on Lina’s mental health.
She later realised her job would not get her family out of poverty so she decided to set up her own business.
Lina explained: “I heard about rent-to-rent serviced accommodation with Airbnb.
“I could make my 9-5 wages by simply managing landlords’ properties.”
She used her savings to ensure that the Airbnb’s she was renting were “to hotel standards” and then began charging £150 a night.
Bookings began coming in nonstop and her hard work started to pay off.
The 27-year-old decided to take on more properties and now makes £10,000 a month from 10 Airbnb’s.
Lina can now support her family by taking them travelling, something which she said used to be a “pipe dream” for them.
The young woman also bought a five-bedroom home for them to live in.
Lina said: “I used to eat one meal a day to save money and relied on benefits.
“Everyone around me never believed that I could ever achieve what I have today, especially myself.”
Lina frequently posts her story from financial hardship to financial freedom on Instagram and TikTok under the username @linaxakhtar.
Some could relate to her story while others were impressed.
One said: “Well done darling. You should be proud of yourself. And I bet your mummy is bursting with pride too. Well done.”
Another commented: “Wow, what a life-changing story!”
A third added: “Big up sis, respect.”
One comment read: “Inspirational.”
Lina is also mentoring students on how they can follow a similar path.
