upon entering the house, they saw the burglar still asleep.
In a bizarre incident, an Indian burglar was arrested after he was found asleep in the targeted house.
The incident happened in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh on June 2, 2024.
According to police, the thief was very drunk and after turning on the air conditioner, the soothing cool air made him feel drowsy and he fell asleep, only to be woken up by officers.
The attempted robbery happened in the early hours of June 2 when the burglar entered the property.
Located in the Indira Nagar area of Lucknow, the house belonged to Sunil Pandey, who works at Balrampur Hospital and was away in Varanasi at the time.
Knowing the property was empty, the thief entered via the front gate.
Upon entering the house, the robber searched for anything valuable.
But when he moved into the living room, he noticed the air conditioner and switched it on.
Given that he was in a drunken state, the air conditioning relaxed him to such an extent that he laid down on the floor, placed his head on a cushion and went to sleep.
That morning, neighbours saw Mr Pandey’s door slightly open.
After peeking in, they saw household items in disarray.
They phoned Mr Pandey to say that his house had been burgled and he subsequently called the police.
Police arrived at the scene but upon entering the house, they saw the burglar still asleep.

Police woke him up and he was then arrested.
Officer Vikas Rai said cabinets had been forced open and money had been placed into the thief’s bag.
There was even an attempt to take the water pump, gas cylinder and washbasin.
However, as the thief tried to remove some batteries, the sleepiness took its toll.
Officer Rai added: “It seems that he passed out from intoxication while trying to take out the battery.”
DCP North Zone R Vijay Shankar said the man entered the house with the intention of stealing but fell asleep.
He said:
“He was heavily drunk because of which he fell asleep and could not wake up.”
“It was reported by the neighbours, after which he was arrested.”
The thief was charged with theft under Section 379A of the Indian Penal Code.
The police said that further action would be taken in the matter.
