"Now is the time to support Kamala Harris and fight"
Kamala Harris has become the Democrats’ frontrunner for the presidential nomination.
This comes after Joe Biden announced he would withdraw from the 2024 presidential race.
After he stepped aside, Mr Biden backed Ms Harris and said:
“I want to offer my full support and endorsement for Kamala to be the nominee of our party this year. Democrats – it’s time to come together and beat Trump.”
In response, Ms Harris said: “I am honoured to have the President’s endorsement and my intention is to earn and win this nomination.”
In the hours after Mr Biden’s announcement, several Democrats endorsed Vice President Ms Harris.
Former President Bill Clinton and ex-Secretary of State Hillary Clinton threw their support behind her, saying this was the best way to stop Donald Trump from winning a second term as President.
Their statement read: “We’ve lived through many ups and downs, but nothing has made us more worried for our country than the threat posed by a second Trump term.
“Now is the time to support Kamala Harris and fight with everything we’ve got to elect.”
Pennsylvania governor Josh Shapiro tweeted:
“The best path forward for the Democratic Party is to quickly unite behind Vice President Harris and refocus on winning the presidency.”
Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg also backed Ms Harris’ bid, saying he would “do all that I can” to help elect her as the next President.
Senator Chris Coons is also supporting Kamala Harris while the ‘Biden for President’ campaign has officially changed its name to ‘Harris for President’.
Ms Harris will be issuing new Federal Election Commission (FEC) filings soon.
The notice to the FEC said: “This letter is to inform you that Vice President Harris is no longer a candidate in the 2024 election for Vice President.
“Vice President Harris is now a candidate for United States President in the 2024 election.”
Senator Elizabeth Warren is also supporting Ms Harris because she’s “ready to go toe-to-toe with Donald Trump and win” in a video posted to X.

Senator Warren previously said she would support Kamala Harris if Joe Biden dropped out of the race.
Adam Schiff, the Californian Democrat running for Senate, endorsed Ms Harris, saying she has the “judgment, experience, leadership, and tenacity to take on and defeat Donald Trump”.
The Congressional Black Caucus said they joined Mr Biden in “fully supporting” Ms Harris to be the Democratic presidential nominee, while Alexandria Ocasio Cortez pledged her “full support” to ensure the vice president won in November.
Other Democrats, including James Clyburn, a respected former leader in the party, Jasmine Crockett, Jamie Raskin, Eric Swalwell, Debbie Dingell and Mazie Hirono have also already backed Ms Harris.
However, former President Barack Obama stopped short of endorsing Ms Harris.
Instead of backing her, he said in a statement:
“I have extraordinary confidence that the leaders of our party will be able to create a process from which an outstanding nominee emerges.”
