"Kalpana lying unconscious on her bed."
Renowned playback singer Kalpana Raghavendar was found unconscious at her residence in Rangareddy, Telangana, on March 4.
The 44-year-old artist was immediately rushed to a hospital, where her condition later stabilised. Authorities are investigating the circumstances leading to the incident.
According to police, officers received an emergency call from the apartment committee at around 5 pm.
Upon arrival, they found the door locked. Looking through the kitchen window, they saw Kalpana lying unconscious on her bed. Concerned for her well-being, they forced entry and called for medical assistance.
A KPHB police official said: “We received a call from the apartment committee at 5 pm.
“Upon arrival, we found the door locked, but through the kitchen window, spotted Kalpana lying unconscious on her bed.
“We quickly transported Kalpana to the Holistic Hospital in an ambulance, where she is currently undergoing treatment.
“Her husband also reached by 6 pm. Her condition is better now. No case has been registered.”
Medical responders moved her to Holistic Hospital in Nizampet.
Soon after Kalpana’s hospitalisation, reports claimed she had tried to take her own life after a family dispute.
Her daughter denied the claims that the singer tried to commit suicide:
“My mother has no issues. She is perfectly fine, happy and healthy.
“She is a singer and is also pursuing her PhD and LLB, which led to insomnia. To treat her insomnia, she took the tablets prescribed by her doctor. Due to stress, there was a slight drug overdose.
“Please do not manipulate or misinterpret any news.”
Dismissing claims that there are family problems, she added:
“My mother is fine, and both my parents are perfectly happy. Everyone in my family is doing well. She will be back soon.
“This was not a suicide attempt, it was just a slight overdose of insomnia tablet. Please do not spread or distort any misinformation.”
Kalpana’s husband, Prasad, who was in Chennai at the time, had been unable to contact her for two days.
Concerned for her safety, he requested local community members to check on her. Upon finding her unresponsive, they alerted authorities, leading to a swift response from police and medical teams.
Before the incident, Kalpana had returned from Kerala to Hyderabad for an event.
Her recent activities and interactions before being found unconscious are now being examined as part of the ongoing investigation.
Several well-known singers, including Geeta Madhuri and Sunitha, visited Kalpana at the hospital.
Kalpana is a celebrated playback singer known for her contributions to Indian cinema. She has performed in multiple languages and won several accolades.
Her notable works include ‘Navamoorthulainatti’ from Intinta Annamayya and ‘Pogiren’ from 36 Vayadhinile, the latter earning her the Tamil Nadu State Film Award for Best Female Playback Singer.
Her current medical status remains stable, and she is under observation. Authorities have not filed any case related to the incident.
