K-pop sensation Jennie, a member of the internationally famous music group Blackpink, has been accused of plagiarism.
Jennie recently unveiled a teaser for her upcoming solo track ‘Like Jennie’.
The short nine-second snippet, released on March 4, 2025, immediately garnered widespread attention.
Fans praised its catchy beat and Jennie’s dynamic presence.
However, a segment of listeners noticed striking similarities between ‘Like Jennie’ and ‘Rani’s Theme’ from the 2023 Bollywood film Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani.
‘Rani’s Theme’, composed by Pritam, serves as the background score for Alia Bhatt’s character, Rani, in the film directed by Karan Johar.
The theme is characterised by its thumping beats and distinctive vocal chants, elements that listeners found mirrored in Jennie’s teaser.
This observation led to discussions on social media platforms, with some fans expressing disappointment over the perceived lack of originality.
One person who listened to the teaser said: “This is the same song; even the vocals are similar”.
Jennie posted a snippet of her forthcoming track on Instagram:

Accusations of plagiarism and fans defending Jennie are resulting in heated discussions online across social media platforms.
#BLACKPINK‘s Jennie copied the song ‘Rani Anthem’ from the movie ‘Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani’, which has Indian artist Pritam’s credits, in a way that sounds no different. pic.twitter.com/lwtiCS2O7m

The irony of the situation was not lost on those familiar with Pritam’s history.
The composer has previously faced allegations of plagiarism, notably for the song ‘Pehli Nazar Mein’ from the film Race, which was accused of being a direct lift from a Korean track.
One user on X stated:
Pritam literally copied Pehli Nazar me note for note without any credits from a Korean song, prolly did the same for this intro, sampled it, from another international song but didn’t legally give credits whereas Jennie will give sampling credits. https://t.co/LDcukEN2D1

Amid these discussions, some fans urged caution, suggesting that similarities in music can arise coincidentally or due to shared influences and sampling.
Other fans have stated the accusations are “baseless”.
Neither Jennie nor her management team has responded to these allegations.
The full version of ‘Like Jennie’ is scheduled for release on March 7, 2025. This release may provide more context and clarity regarding its composition.
Listeners and fans worldwide are keenly awaiting the song’s debut to hear Jennie’s latest musical offering and make a deeper comparison.
The unfolding situation between Jennie’s ‘Like Jennie’ and ‘Rani’s Theme’ underscores the complexities of musical creation in a globalised world.
As artists draw inspiration from diverse sources, overlaps can occur, leading to debates about originality and influence.
