She believes it symbolises hope for every young girl
Pakistani radio jockey RJ Sophie has become the first Pakistani to be nominated for Filmfare’s Most Influential Women of UAE 2025.
She was nominated for the ‘RJ of the Year’ award category.
With an extensive career spanning over a decade, she has cemented her place in both Pakistan’s and the UAE’s media industries.
Currently, she hosts the rush hour show on Vibe FM 105.4, Dubai’s leading Desi music station.
Expressing her excitement, she described the moment as surreal.
She grew up hearing about Filmfare, and receiving this recognition within just four months of working in the UAE is already a personal victory.
For Sophie, this nomination is a milestone not just for herself but also for Pakistan.
She believes it symbolises hope for every young girl striving to achieve her dreams.
Her journey in radio began in December 2006 when she auditioned for FM91 while casually visiting a friend.
That single moment turned into a career that has made her a household name.
However, the road to success was not without its challenges.
Breaking into a male-dominated industry, proving her capabilities, and maintaining her place at the top were hurdles she had to overcome.
Sophie hopes this achievement will inspire young Pakistanis, especially women, to fearlessly pursue careers in media.
She believes representation in global media is crucial and that Pakistani talent should not settle for mediocrity.
According to her, the country needs to support its emerging stars and create a strong community to foster success.
Throughout her career, she has achieved several milestones.
Hosting the ‘Vital Signs’ reunion on PTV World’s Weekend World and interviewing Junaid Jamshed remain two of her most treasured moments.
She was also selected for media training in Washington DC, and Chicago by the US Consulate.
RJ Sophie, whose real name is Sophiya Anjam, became the first Pakistani to host a primetime radio show in the UAE.

Additionally, she received the UAE Golden Visa on merit and was awarded ‘Best Upcoming RJ/MC of the Year’ by Gulf News.
In an interview, RJ Sophie revealed that she takes pride in representing her country, crediting her fans for motivating her to improve and evolve.
For young Pakistanis hoping to achieve international success, Sophie gave a piece of simple advice:
“Stay true to yourself and be consistent.”
She acknowledged that fame and freedom can be a slippery slope, but holding onto values and pushing forward with passion is the key.
RJ Sophie believes that Pakistani talent still lacks significant global representation and that more mentorship and collaboration are needed.
As she celebrates this milestone, Sophie hopes her achievement will encourage her fellow Pakistanis.
