The recently released film Dorod, starring Shakib Khan and directed by Anonno Mamun, had a grand screening at SKS Star Cineplex in Mohakhali, Bangladesh.

The event was sponsored by Acnol, a leading health and hygiene brand, in collaboration with Shakib Khan’s business venture, Remark-Herlan.

Following the screening, Shakib Khan shared his excitement over the film’s record-breaking opening, proudly stating:

Dorod has achieved the highest opening collection of the year.”

He emphasised that its success proves that blockbuster films can thrive outside traditional Eid festival releases.

He cited previous hits like Priya Amar Priya and Koti Takar Kabin as examples.

Addressing the possibility of working with foreign actresses, the star mentioned that scheduling conflicts remain a challenge.

Shakib explained: “I work on only two or three films a year, so I need a longer commitment from my co-stars.

“Our local actresses are very busy with multiple projects, but we will collaborate again once schedules align.”

The screening drew numerous stars, including Puja Chery, Siam Ahmed, Prarthana Fardin Dighi, Orchita Sporshia, Samonty Shoumi, and Rukaiya Jahan Chamak.

Meanwhile, Dorod faced a bad reception at Jashore’s iconic Monihar Cinema Hall.

Just a day after its nationwide release across 84 theatres, the romantic psycho-thriller was removed from the Cineplex.

This was done to make way for Shihab Shaheen’s romantic drama Chuye Dile Mon.

The decision puzzled moviegoers, especially given the high expectations surrounding Shakib Khan’s first pan-Indian venture.

Faruk Ahmed, the manager of Monihar Cineplex, attributed the decision to underwhelming box office returns.

He revealed: “We invested heavily in upgrading our cinema to a cineplex and acquired this film at a high cost.

“Unfortunately, Dorod didn’t perform as expected, so we had to take it down.”

While the film was pulled from the cineplex, it continued screening at Monihar’s single-screen theatre.

However, audience backlash quickly prompted the cineplex to reinstate Dorod the following day.

Faruk said: “Our cineplex is brand new, and replacing Dorod with an older film led to negative reactions.

“The audience wasn’t interested in watching a dated movie in a modern facility.

“With no other new releases available, bringing back Dorod was the best option.”

Despite the initial setback, Dorod continues to capture the attention of Shakib Khan’s loyal fan base.

They claim it has the potential to solidify its place among 2024’s most notable films.
