"It was a culture shock."
Viewers are currently enjoying the 2024 series of ITV’s I’m a Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here.
The survival competition features celebrities in a jungle camp carrying out challenging trials to win food and other luxuries for their teammates.
Known as the ‘Bushtucker Trials,’ these challenges involve entering uncomfortable situations, often surrounded by unpleasant jungle creatures.
In 2018, the Coronation Street actress Sair Khan took part in the competition.
Meanwhile, in the current series, her co-star Alan Halsall is being put to the test.
Sair reflected on her I’m a Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here journey, and she also revealed her advice to Alan.
She explained: “I’ve definitely been on the phone to Alan, telling him my little tricks and tips if he wants an easy life.
“I said to him, ‘For the jobs, if you’ve got a choice, pick the dunny because you only have to empty that toilet once a day!’
“The other jobs, they take longer.
“With the washing up, you have to go all the way down the steps to the water, do the manual labour of the cleaning, and then you have to cart everything back up, which takes ages.
“With the dunny, you’re in, you’re out.
“It’s so boring there – if you’re not doing a trial, you’re sitting around, so some people want to keep busy.
“I personally found it really hard. The hunger and anger were real, and the unfamiliarity. It was a culture shock for me.
“I didn’t take to it as well as I thought I would.
“There are memorable moments, but I wouldn’t say they were all positive.”
Sair also praised Alan, commenting that he “loves to sit around” and that everyone at Coronation Street “loves him”.
When Sair was on I’m a Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here, she was the third participant to be voted out on December 3, 2018.
Meanwhile, she has played Alya Nazir in Coronation Street since 2014.
Alan has portrayed Tyrone Dobbs in the soap since 1998.
In the 2024 series of I’m a Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here, Alan was recently seen clashing with fellow campmate Dean McCullough.
Alan tried to wake Dean up to get him to carry wood, but when it appeared that Dean wasn’t responding, Alan said:
“You don’t fancy it, no? Okay.”
Dean was then seen coming down to Alan, and the celebrities had an altercation.
Dean said: “If you’re going to wake me up, you need to give me a minute.
“It takes a couple of minutes for my contact lenses to get back working again, alright?
“So you don’t need to turn around to me and say, ‘Do you not fancy it? Okay’.
“And then turn around and walk away.”
I’m a Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here 2024 is presented by Anthony ‘Ant’ McPartlin and Declan ‘Dec’ Donnelly.
