Larger conflict between characters is expected.
The trailer for Prithviraj Sukumaran’s highly anticipated action thriller Khalifa has finally been released to significant online excitement.
The trailer crossed one million views on YouTube within hours of dropping ahead of its Onam release.
The footage gives audiences their first extended and immersive look at the film’s sprawling world of gold smuggling and organised crime.
Prithviraj is introduced as Aamir Ali, a man who finds himself drawn into a powerful gold smuggling network with far-reaching links beyond Kerala.
What begins as his involvement in the criminal underworld soon develops into a larger and more personal battle involving power, survival and revenge.
The trailer is packed with shoot-outs, hand-to-hand combat, intense confrontations and large-scale action sequences.
It also hints at the international reach of the criminal empire that sits at the very centre of the film’s expanding narrative.
Khalifa is directed by Vysakh and is being mounted as a two-part theatrical saga with each chapter carrying its own distinct title.
The first chapter is titled Khalifa: The Intro while the second is titled Khalifa: His Reign, promising a layered and expansive story arc.
The first instalment is scheduled for a theatrical release on August 20, 2026, during the widely celebrated Onam festive season in Kerala.
Based on the trailer, The Intro appears to focus on establishing Aamir Ali’s world and the forces that surround him.
The larger conflict between characters is expected to unfold more fully and dramatically in the second chapter of the two-part saga.
Mohanlal’s presence in the film is already one of the most talked-about elements surrounding the production and its upcoming release.
He plays Mambarakkal Ahmed Ali, a character connected to Aamir’s family legacy whose full role is being kept carefully under wraps.
The trailer offers only brief glimpses of the veteran actor, building considerable intrigue around his character and his connection to Prithviraj’s Aamir Ali.
Recent reports suggest the first instalment will primarily introduce Ahmed Ali, potentially setting up a significantly larger and more central role in the second chapter.
The film also marks a reunion between Prithviraj and director Vysakh after a gap of 15 years.
The two previously collaborated on Pokkiri Raja, which also marked Vysakh’s directorial debut.
Vysakh has also reunited with writer Jinu V Abraham, who is also producing the film alongside Suraj Kumar for the ambitious production.
Khalifa continues Vysakh’s well-established association with large-scale action cinema following the success of films like Pokkiri Raja and Pulimurugan.
