Pakistani Wife shoots Husband over ‘Divorce Threats’

A Pakistani wife has been arrested for allegedly killing her husband over his threats to divorce her.

The incident happened in the Manghopir area of Karachi.

It was reported that she had shot her husband dead while he was sleeping. The woman confessed to the crime on Sunday, July 12, 2020, a day after carrying out the murder at their home.

The body was sent to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for medico-legal formalities where he was identified as 30-year-old Usman.

When officers were informed of the shooting, they turned up at the home and spoke to the victim’s wife Bakht Begum.

She initially tried to deceive the police by claiming that she saw a man standing outside the window of her room who shot her husband dead and fled the scene.

However, when officers were searching the home, they found a bullet cartridge inside.

They then suspected that a person known to the victim must be responsible. When they questioned Begum, she admitted killing her husband.

Police also recovered the weapon, which had been buried by Begum in the veranda.

According to police, the mother-of-three said that her husband worked at a vegetable market. However, he was a drug addict and would also sell drugs there.

Begum revealed that her husband had divorced her once but they ended up remarrying. However, he made constant threats to divorce her for a second time.

She justified her reasons for killing her husband, saying:

“My husband used to give me divorce threats and was involved in selling drugs.”

The Pakistani wife said that Usman had purchased a gun. He allegedly had threatened to kill her.

A few days before the murder, Begum saw her husband hiding the gun in the house. On the night of Saturday, July 11, Begum took the weapon and shot her husband dead as he slept.

After killing her husband, Begum went to the veranda of their house and buried the weapon.

However, police found the gun. Officers also said that the accused tried to mislead the police investigation but she was unsuccessful in doing so.

While Begum was arrested, Usman’s body was taken to the hospital for medico-legal formalities. After they were completed, the body was handed over to the family.

According to the victim’s family, they will formally register a murder case after the funeral has been completed.
