An angry mob torched a water tanker in Karachi after the vehicle’s driver struck a motorcyclist.

According to police, the incident occurred near Paposh Nagar when the tanker hit a biker, injuring him.

The driver fled the scene, leading to a chase by up to 12 individuals who eventually intercepted him near Five Star Chowrangi.

The mob initially attacked the driver, damaging the tanker’s windows.

The situation escalated further when the group set the tanker on fire.

Rescue-1122 responded quickly and managed to contain the blaze, but the front of the tanker was severely damaged.

Police are awaiting the injured motorcyclist to file a formal complaint so they can initiate legal proceedings.

This incident comes after similar arson attacks took place on the night of April 9, 2025.

At least 10 heavy vehicles, including water tankers and dumpers, were set ablaze after one of the trucks hit a motorcyclist.

Rumours quickly spread that a woman had been killed in the accident.

This misinformation led to a wave of anger and violence, with enraged mobs taking matters into their own hands.

Police arrested 19 suspects in connection with the attacks, charging them with terrorism.

In North Karachi, the arson attacks escalated to the point where fire brigade personnel faced violent resistance.

As they attempted to extinguish the flames, they were pelted with stones, injuring one firefighter.

The unrest continued for hours, with rioting and road blockages making it difficult for authorities to control the situation.

Despite the deployment of a large police force, sporadic outbreaks of violence persisted into the night.

The widespread violence has been linked to rising tensions over traffic accidents in the city.

Over the past year, there has been an alarming number of fatalities caused by heavy vehicles.

In the first 99 days of 2025, the Chhipa Foundation reported 80 road deaths, with dump trucks and trailers being the main culprits.

These statistics reflect the deep frustration among citizens who have seen the deadly consequences of lax traffic enforcement.

In another disturbing incident, a 25-year-old motorcyclist, Masood Khan, was run over and killed by a speeding trailer in Landhi.

Meanwhile, in Surjani Town, a young boy was injured in a hit-and-run incident.

These incidents have only fuelled public anger, leading some people to take vigilante action against heavy vehicles and their drivers.

The incidents highlight growing frustration with the traffic police’s inability to curb deadly road accidents and enforce laws.

As tensions rise, citizens have begun to take justice into their own hands, resulting in violent protests and arson attacks.

Police are investigating the events, but it remains clear that the anger surrounding traffic-related fatalities is escalating.
