"It’s awful to see how common it’s become"
A burqa-clad woman in Pakistan was groped by a motorcycle rider in broad daylight.
The incident, captured on CCTV, has since gone viral, sparking outrage on social media.
The footage shows the woman walking down a residential street in Karachi.
Meanwhile, a man on a motorbike is travelling on the opposite side.
As he approaches her, he puts out his hand and inappropriately touches her.
Disturbingly, the harasser’s face is clearly visible and he quickly fled the scene after the sexual assault.
Notably, a young child was seen sitting on the bike with him, raising further concerns about the environment in which such acts occur.
Despite the clear evidence, the victim has not reached out to police to report the crime.
Commenting on the incident, Sajal Aly took to her Instagram, saying:
“I’m losing faith in this country. It’s awful to see how common it’s become for men to harass women and children.
“I can’t help but feel hopeless about where we are headed.”
The disturbing incident has stirred a wave of shock and outrage.
This was due to the fact that the woman involved was fully covered from head to toe.
Pakistan is a country where victim-blaming and questions about a woman’s attire often accompany cases of harassment.
However, this specific instance offered no room for such excuses or justifications.
Maryam Nafess took to Instagram to voice her outrage.
She stated: “And that ladies and gentlemen is a FULLY COVERED woman!”

In response to the recent harassment cases happening in the country, she added:
“We should be able to wear whatever we want without these animals harassing us.”
Unfortunately, this is not the sole harassment case that has happened recently.
In Khanewal, Punjab, a female employee was physically assaulted by her boss at a local pizza shop.
The incident was captured on CCTV and sparked calls for accountability in the workplace.
In Lahore, a man was arrested for repeatedly sexually assaulting his 14-year-old stepdaughter over the course of a year.
In another incident, a man was arrested for allegedly harassing a female polio worker in Karachi.
An assistant sub-inspector was subsequently suspended over the matter.
These incidents collectively underscore the persistent issues of harassment and violence against women in Pakistan.
They highlight the need for systemic changes in both societal attitudes and legal frameworks to ensure safety.
