Ayushmann Khurrana’s new film Dream Girl released their trailer but the filmmakers were in for a surprise.
At the end of the trailer, there is a phone number which is due to Ayushmann’s character transforming into a woman just by using his voice.
Ayushmann plays Lokesh, a theatre performer who dresses up as female mythological characters. Simultaneously, he acts as Pooja when talking to people over the phone.
It has been revealed that the phone number at the end of the trailer has had over 75,000 phone calls.
Reportedly, the makers started receiving calls as soon as the trailer was released on August 12, 2019. Within two hours of it coming out, there had been 75,673 calls.
At the same time, the filmmakers also started getting WhatsApp messages from people asking for the dream girl.
Callers also tried to get through by using WhatsApp, trying to connect via video and audio calling.
The phone number caused a frenzy as there were 167,274 incoming messages and 209,398 outgoing messages on chat.
It escalated during the evening of the trailer release as nearly 1,000 people tried to call at the same time on WhatsApp.
This is something which has not been seen in a film. The trailer has over twenty million views on YouTube and it highlights the effective marketing that the Dream Girl team has been able to achieve.
Dream Girl is a family comedy with a unique story. Even though the film has not yet released, Ayushmann’s acting talents have already won hearts.
The trailer quickly became one of the top trending videos on YouTube. Bollywood film fans have been expressing their excitement in the comments section. One person commented:
“This guy has got some serious talent in plot selection for movies! Ayushmann in Bollywood for a reason!!”
Another person wrote:
“Will definitely watch it first day first show with the whole group?? Hoping that our stomach will ache so bad after watching the movie.”
Dream Girl features an ensemble cast of Nushrat Bharucha, Annu Kapoor, Vijay Raaz, Manjot Singh, Nidhi Bisht, Rajesh Sharma, Abhishek Banerjee and Raj Bhansali.
The film is directed by Raaj Shaandilyaa and is produced by Shobha Kapoor and Ekta Kapoor.
Dream Girl will hit theatres on September 13, 2019.
