"Finally! Very excited."
Emergency is one of the most anticipated Bollywood films in recent times.
The film has been directed by Kangana Ranaut and will star the actress as the former Indian Prime Minister, Indira Gandhi.
Indira Gandhi served as Prime Minister in two separate terms. In the 1970s, she declared a state of emergency in India.
Kangana’s film will be capitalising on this aspect of Gandhi’s life, highlighting the effects of her decision on the country and her career.
The film was initially scheduled to be released on September 6, 2024.
However, it struggled to obtain clearance from the censorship board and a subsequent certificate.
This led to the film’s release being postponed again. However, in October 2024, Kangana revealed that the film had finally been cleared.
Taking to her Instagram account, Kangana recently announced a new release date for the film.
Underneath the poster, she wrote: “January 17, 2025 – The epic saga of the nation’s most powerful woman and the moment that altered India’s destiny.
“Emergency unveils only in cinemas.”
The announcement elicited many enthusiastic comments from people.
One user said: “Finally! Very excited.”
A second person said: “Kangana Ji, you really are an inspiration.”
A third added: “Blockbuster loading.”

Emergency also attracted controversy after Kangana received threats from people.
In a viral video, a person addressed the actress and said: “If you release this movie, Sardars will beat you with slippers.
“You’ve already been slapped. I’m a proud Indian and if I see you anywhere in my country, especially in Maharashtra, we will welcome you with slippers.”
Anupam Kher, who plays Jayaprakash Narayan in the film, spoke about the controversy and stated:
“[Kangana] has made a brilliant film. Ups and downs do happen, but when the film will release, people will forget all the controversies.”
When the trailer of Emergency was released in August 2024, Kangana said:
“I have faced many obstacles while making this film which is common with every film.
“Every film faces a lot of obstacles and then they find many angels who support you through those obstacles.
“I want to say a special thanks to my cast. Everybody knows I have been boycotted by the film industry.
“It’s not easy to stand with me. It’s not easy to be part of my film and it’s definitely not easy to praise me.
“But, they have done all of it.”
