"We will welcome you with slippers."
Kangana Ranaut’s Emergency chronicles the life of Prime Minister Indira Gandhi.
The film stars Kangana as the former politician and has also been produced and directed by the actress.
Emergency may not have hit screens yet but the upcoming film is already stirring up controversy.
Kangana Ranaut shockingly received violent threats in relation to the movie.
In a video posted on X, a person addressed Kangana and said: “If you release this movie, Sardars will beat you with slippers.
“You’ve already been slapped. I’m a proud Indian and if I see you anywhere in my country, especially in Maharashtra, we will welcome you with slippers.”
Another person in the video declared: “History cannot be altered.
“If Sikhs are depicted as terrorists in the film, remember what happened to the one you are portraying.
“Don’t forget who Satwant Singh and Beant Singh were. We know how to break the finger that points at us.
“If we can sacrifice our heads, we can also take one.”
The user who tweeted the video tagged Kangana and wrote: “What is happening in our nation?
“People are openly threatening the life of BJP MP and Bollywood actress Kangana Ranaut simply for portraying India’s history.
“Is it wrong to tell the story of the Iron Lady of India, who is celebrated as one of the country’s strongest Prime Ministers?
“Please increase your security. We’re genuinely concerned for your safety.”
Kangana retweeted the video clip and tagged the police accounts of Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, and Maharashtra.
She wrote: “Please look into this.”

In a previous press conference, SGPC chief Harjinder Singh Dhami spoke out against Emergency.
He called for legal action against Kangana. Dhami also labelled the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) as “biased”.
Jathedar Gyani Raghbir Singh of the Akal Takht branded the film as a deliberate distortion of Sikh characters.
During the trailer launch of Emergency, Kangana Ranaut said: “I have faced many obstacles while making this film which is common with every film.
“Every film faces a lot of obstacles and then they find many angels who support you through those obstacles.”
Indira Gandhi served as Prime Minister for two separate terms. In 1984, during her second term in office, she was assassinated by her bodyguards.
Emergency also stars actors including Anupam Kher, Shreyas Talpade, and Mahima Chaudhry.
It is scheduled to be released on September 6, 2024.
