"This is an unbelievable time for me."
Kangana Ranaut’s Emergency is one of the most anticipated films of 2024.
In the film, Kangana portrays Prime Minister Indira Gandhi who served in office during two separate terms. The film was initially set to release in 2023.
However, multiple delays led to the movie ultimately being confirmed to be released on September 6, 2024.
The film narrates the story of Gandhi, who controversially declared a state of emergency in India during the 1970s.
In 1984, Gandhi was assassinated by her bodyguards.
Kangana Ranaut’s film has not been without controversy. The actress has received threats of violence from various people.
In a video posted on X, Kangana revealed her worries about the release.
She specified that Emergency was yet to receive a certificate from the censors.
Kangana Ranaut admitted: “There are rumours that our film Emergency has got a censor certificate. It is not true.
“In fact, our film was cleared earlier but its certification has been stopped because of several threats.
“People of the censor board are also getting a lot of threats.
“There is pressure on us to not show the assassination of Mrs Gandhi, Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale and the Punjab riots.
“I don’t know what we will show then, that there is a blackout in the film?
“This is an unbelievable time for me and I am very sorry for this state of things in this country.”

The video garnered disappointed reactions from netizens.
One user said: “We failed an artist.”
Another person questioned: “Why don’t they want the world to know about humanity?”
A third user asked why Kangana was unable to release the film despite being a member of Parliament herself.
They wrote: “As part of the government, why aren’t you releasing the movie?
“You must have shown something in the film that is not being cleared by the censors. Which can be an issue later on.”
Kangana recently slammed Bollywood for allegedly not supporting Emergency.
She said: “Bollywood is, to be honest, a hopeless place. There is no saving it.
“Because, one, they are jealous of talent. If they find someone talented, they go after them to bring them down.
“They ruin their career and boycott them. They defame people with bad PR.”
“They are so filled with venom and envy because they have received everything in life easily and didn’t have to work hard.
“They think they work hard because they go to the gym.”
Emergency also stars Anupam Kher, Shreyas Talpade, and Mahima Chaudhry.
Kangana Ranaut has also directed and produced the film.
She has not confirmed whether the film will still release on September 6.
