H Vinoth’s Jana Nayagan is finally hitting screens after months of considerable speculation.
The film stars Vijay in the lead role and was delayed extensively.
Months passed after the lead star stood for elections and became the chief minister.
Vijay was elected as the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu recently.
The production house KVN Productions confirmed the film’s release date officially.
The production confirmed that Jana Nayagan is releasing in theatres on July 23.
Making the announcement, they wrote on social media: “Tested by fire. Forged by time. Built for history.
“The tougher the battle, the louder the victory.”
They also released a new poster showing Vijay in a police uniform prominently.
The poster featured Vijay holding a katana, suggesting an action-oriented film narrative.
It will release a day before its overseas release scheduled for July 24, 2026.
Numerous foreign distributors of the film had already announced and opened bookings.
The producers coordinated with international distributors to align release dates globally.
Jana Nayagan hitting screens on July 23 means Vijay’s film will potentially clash.
The clash would be with his son, Jason Sanjay’s debut directorial project.
Jason’s film is titled Sigma and is a heist film. It stars Sundeep Kishan and Faria Abdullah in the lead roles.
Lyca Productions has yet to announce any change to that scheduled date.
This potential clash comes amid rumours of a rift between father and son.
The rift apparently began after news of Sangeeta Sornalingam filing for divorce broke.
Neither Sangeeta nor his children, Jason and Divya Saasha, attended his swearing-in ceremony.
Only his parents, SA Chandrasekhar and Shoba, attended the significant ceremonial event.
His cousins were also present at the important state government ceremony.
Trisha Krishnan, whom he’s rumoured to be dating, was also front and centre.
Jason is also reported to have dropped his surname for his debut film.
However, he hasn’t spoken about any of these developments publicly.
Jana Nayagan stars Vijay in the principal lead role. Pooja Hegde, Bobby Deol and Mamitha Baiju appear as supporting cast members.
Gautham Vasudev Menon, Prakash Raj, Narain and Priyamani also appear in the film.
The film is touted to be an adaptation of Anil Ravipudi’s 2023 film titled Bhagavanth Kesari.
The film was supposed to be released in January 2026 for Pongal originally.
However, it was postponed due to a delay in CBFC certification proceedings.
