“We don’t get paid for singing in Bollywood at all."
Popular Indian playback singer Neha Kakkar has made a shocking revelation stating singers do not get paid for singing songs in Bollywood.
Neha began her singing journey at the young age of four when she would perform at religious events.
The singer also went on to perform on the popular singing reality show, Indian Idol. However, Neha was eliminated in the early stages of the show.
After several setbacks, Neha rose to fame with the song ‘Second Hand Jawani’ from the 2012 hit film, Cocktail.
Since then, Neha Kakkar has delivered some of the finest Bollywood songs to date.
These include ‘Garmi’ (2019), ‘Aankh Marey’ (2018), ‘O Saki Saki (2019)’, ‘Dilbar’ (2018), ‘Kala Chashma’ (2018) and many more.
She has proven her versatility time and again with various songs from singing party songs like ‘Aao Raja’ (2015) to a romantic ballad like ‘Oh Humsafar’ (2018).
Despite her tremendous success, Neha Kakkar disclosed an interesting yet shocking fact about Bollywood.
According to an interaction with IANS, Neha explained why Bollywood does not pay its singers. She said:
“We don’t get paid for singing in Bollywood at all. What happens is they feel that if we give a super hit song, the singer will earn through shows.”
“I get a good amount from live concerts and everything, but Bollywood doesn’t have this scene. To make us sing a song, they don’t pay.”
Apart from playback singing, the 31-year-old singer travels worldwide to perform for her fans.
She has also been a judge on various popular singing show, including the show she was once eliminated from, Indian Idol.
Despite being criticised for frequently crying on reality shows as a judge, Neha Kakkar has expressed she is a “proud emotional girl” as she does not shy away from showing her emotions.
Neha continued to mention she will feature in a song with renowned Indian rapper Yo Yo Honey Sing titled, ‘Moscow Suka’.
The forthcoming music collaboration will also feature the Russian vocals by singer Ekaterina Sizova.
Taking to Instagram on Thursday, 9 April 2020, Neha Kakkar upload several pictures of herself along with her brother and singer Tony Kakkar to wish him a happy birthday.
The famous siblings have also collaborated on a number of tracks such as ‘Car Mein Music Baja’ (2015), ‘Dheeme Dheeme’ (2019), ‘Coca Cola’ (2019) and many more.
