"It is my purpose to use my voice to bring hope."
According to Cancer Research UK, ovarian cancer is the sixth most common cancer in females in the country.
Between 2017 and 2019, 7,538 cases of the disease were registered in the UK.
The illness mostly affects women over the age of 50, but it can affect anyone who has ovaries, which are two small organs that store eggs needed to produce babies.
Manisha Koirala is a Bollywood actress who survived the disease after being diagnosed with it in 2012.
The star is gearing up to appear in London for an event at the Shaw Theatre.
Ovacome, the UK’s ovarian cancer support charity, will host the event titled An Audience with Manisha Koirala.
Attendees will have the chance to see Manisha discuss her global fame as a Bollywood star and the challenges she faced while fighting the illness.
Dr Amir Khan, an NHS GP, will interview Manisha. He is also a bestselling author and a TV doctor on Good Morning Britain and Lorraine.
Speaking about her cancer journey, Manisha said: “Surviving Stage Four ovarian cancer was not just a battle of the body, but a transformation of the soul.
“I’ve been given a second chance at life, and I believe it is my purpose to use my voice to bring hope, raise awareness, and ensure that no woman feels alone in this journey.
“Partnering with Ovacome is deeply personal — together, we are not just fighting cancer, we are empowering lives.
“I’m truly looking forward to meeting you all at this intimate gathering — to share my story, but just as importantly, to interact with you and hear yours.”
Manisha became an ambassador for Ovacome in January 2025.
As she sheds light on her journey at the event, she will raise essential awareness about ovarian cancer as well as the stigma surrounding the disease.
Victoria Clare, CEO of Ovacome, added: “We are so excited to be organising this unique event.
“Manisha has been very vocally supportive of our community and her commitment to help us raise vital funds at this time is so typical of her generosity and kindness.
“With so many developments in the treatment of ovarian cancer, it is increasingly important that we raise awareness of this disease as a community.”
In January 2019, Manisha published a memoir about her battle with cancer titled Healed: How Cancer Gave Me a New Life.
Since making her debut on the big screen in Saudagar (1991), the actress has appeared in several acclaimed films of Indian cinema.
These include 1942: A Love Story (1994), Akele Hum Akele Tum (1995), Lajja (2001), and Sanju (2018).
She last appeared as Malikajaan in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s web series Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar (2024).
Manisha Koirala’s event, in partnership with Ovacome, will take place on Sunday, July 13, 2025.
