In an interview, actress Manisha Koirala was all praise for some of the younger generation Bollywood stars.

"I see Alia Bhatt's work and I say wow."

Veteran Bollywood actress Manisha Koirala has applauded the work of the younger generation in the film industry.

The Dil Se… (1998) star was all praise in a recent interview, especially for fellow actresses Alia Bhatt and Kangana Ranaut.

Koirala told PinkVilla: “The younger generation is great, they are on par with world standards.

“Kartik Aryan is a fine actor. Ranbir Kapoor is great.

“I see Alia Bhatt’s work and I say wow. I feel she is way beyond what I would have done.

“Kangana is also brilliant. I loved her in Queen.”

However, she also made sure to keep her former co-stars in mind, adding:

“I had the opportunity to work with Nana Patekar, Arvind Swamy, Aamir Khan and other brilliant actors.”

The actress had been discussing her latest movie, the drama-comedy India Sweets and Spices (2021), which is set in the USA.

Also starring Sophia Ali and Rish Shah, the film follows a college student who returns home for the summer and uncovers a family secret.

Koirala noted: “South Asian culture is being shown in different films and stories these days.

“What really is important is that at the end of the day it’s a human story.”

“If it’s a human story, people will connect.”

Manisha Koirala is Nepalese and made her Bollywood debut in Saudagar (1991) with Dilip Kumar and Raaj Kumar.

Subhash Ghai’s drama soon became a major commercial success as did the actress herself who went on to appear in various movies.

Some of her most notable works were released throughout the 90s and 2000s and include Bombay (1995), Khamoshi: The Musical (1996).

The 51-year-old has continued to act in recent years with and prior to India Sweets and Spices, was last seen in the musical romance 99 Songs (2021).

Meanwhile, her last lead role was in Sunaina Bhatnagar’s Dear Maya (2017) in which she plays a woman who is pranked by two local girls.

The actress has recently wrapped up shooting for the upcoming television series Freedom, also featuring Huma Qureshi and Naseeruddin Shah.

Directed and produced by Dibakar Banerjee, the show will begin by portraying middle-class Indian society 25 years into the future.

Koirala will also appear in Rohit Dhawan’s upcoming movie, Shehzada (2022).
