"My relationship with him was very secretive"
On Lock Upp, Mandana Karimi opened up about her abortion after getting pregnant whilst in a secret relationship with a film director.
The Iranian actress and model made the revelation in order to save herself from elimination.
Mandana explained that whilst going through a separation with her husband Gaurav Gupta, she had a secret relationship with a film director.
She said that during the lockdown, she remained off social media:
“The time that I was struggling with my whole situation… my separation, I did have a secret relationship, it was not committed but it went on for a year and a half.
“My relationship was with a very well-known director who talks about women’s rights and independence of women in the outside world, how a woman should be strong.
“He is an idol to many people from the young generation, aspiring filmmakers, and even teenagers because he has a strong image of coming from zero and becoming someone, having no parents, and becoming someone.
“My relationship with him was very secretive because I was not yet divorced and after all that I went through, he made me feel he could be that friend.”
Mandana said they kept the relationship a secret and even moved in together during the lockdown.
“He started calling me partner and he started saying he loved me.”
Mandana then revealed that they wanted a planned pregnancy, but when she became pregnant, he changed his mind and convinced her to have an abortion.
She continued: “We planned a pregnancy but when it happened, he completely backed off and his reason was that he did not think he was emotionally ready to become a father again. He already has a child.
“Suddenly he was like ‘I did not believe you could get pregnant so easily at the age of 33’.
“We then went to my best friend’s house because he said we should discuss with them as they are like my parents.
“When we reached there, he started talking to my friend and saying he was not ready.
“He had planned the whole thing to get my friends to convince me to have an abortion.”
“I then apologised to my friends and got back to the house.
“When we went back, he started saying ‘You should have understood, my ex is not over me and there is a public case against me’.
“I had to make a decision because I come from a broken home. I took the step and I did have an abortion.
“I do not want to name that person because he does not deserve to be known by his name.”
Mandana’s secret left fellow contestants and host Kangana Ranaut emotional.
She added: “It just destroyed so much for me.”
Mandana then broke down.
Mandana Karimi married businessman Gaurav Gupta in March 2017. However, she separated from him.
She filed a domestic violence case against him and his family.
In 2018, Mandana said: “You do feel like everything is just over, and think about how you are going to start over again, dream again.
“I didn’t feel like getting out of the house. I was lucky I had some amazing friends around me at that time to support me.”
