Majid then followed his love rival to the forecourt.
A man who “lost control” has admitted to violently stabbing his love rival to death with a 12-inch zombie knife at a petrol station.
Haseeb Majid knifed Mohammed Duraab Khan on the forecourt of a Texaco garage in Meadow Lane, Nottingham, on January 31, 2024.
Nottingham Crown Court heard Majid “feared violence” from Mr Khan because the victim had previously “threatened” him over the phone.
Mr Khan also vandalised his car a few weeks before the stabbing.
It came after Majid’s ex-girlfriend had sparked a relationship with Mr Khan in September 2023, causing “bad blood” between the two men.
On the evening of January 31, Majid was driving down Meadow Lane when he spotted Mr Khan sitting in the passenger seat of an Audi which then pulled into the petrol station.
Majid then followed his love rival to the forecourt.
He approached the Audi wearing a balaclava and hid what was believed to be a 12-inch blade.
Majid claimed he only wanted to “scare” Mr Khan with the knife but he “lost control” after the victim struck him on the wrist with a steering lock.
After stabbing his love rival four times, Majid continued to use the knife a further 12 times.
Mr Khan suffered stab wounds to his left arm, left leg, torso and back, as well as punctured internal organs.
Paramedics arrived at the scene but despite their best efforts, Mr Khan was pronounced dead shortly after.
In Majid’s prepared statement, he said that if Mr Khan had not “come for” him at the petrol station he “would have only scared him”.
Police did not recover the weapon or balaclava when Majid was arrested.
In a cross-examination, prosecutor Michael Burrows told Majid:
“You have shown no regret for killing him. No remorse.”
The defendant replied: “You have not asked me that. I am ashamed to look behind me at the family and friends (of Mr Khan).
“There is a mother who has lost her son, someone that has lost their brother and nephew.
“If you want to talk about remorse, I will talk about remorse. It is nothing I am proud of, I am ashamed.
“I have been living this every day for the last six months sitting in a prison cell and I will probably spend the rest of my life sitting in a prison cell for this.”
The 22-year-old denied the charge of murder but was convicted. He was found not guilty of possession of a bladed weapon.
Judge Steven Coupland told Majid, who faces a mandatory life sentence:
“You have been committed on count one and I will sentence you at a later date. You will be remanded in custody.”
