A 35-year-old unemployed man killed his own father in order to get a government job in Jharkhand on November 18, 2020.

The father of the accused Krishna Ram, aged 50, was the head of security in Jharkhand Ramgarh’s Central Coal Field’s Limited (CCL).

The accused, unemployed Bhola Ram, wanted a job in the PSU (Public Sector Undertakings) department of the same institution.

Indian government compassionate ground hiring works on the following basis:

“Dependants of a deceased employee of the state are made eligible by virtue of the policy on compassionate appointment.

“The basis of the policy is that it recognises that a family of a deceased employee may be placed in a position of financial hardship upon the untimely death of the employee.”

The police arrested Bhola Ram on the night of November 19, 2020, on suspicions of this nature as well as other evidence.

The police stated that the accused confessed to the crime during interrogation.

According to police, the son first tried to kill the aged father by hitting him on his head.

To ensure that his father was dead, Bhola Ram slit his throat brutally with a kitchen knife and fled the scene.

Patratu SDPO (Sub-Divisional Police Officer) Prakash Chandra Mahto stated:

“Everything was well planned, but somehow the accused did some mistake on the basis of which he was nabbed within 72 hours of the incident.

“During the primary interrogation, the accused admitted that he killed his father in order to secure a government job for himself on the compensatory ground.”

The deceased, Krishna Ram was posted as a Senior Security Guard at Central Coalfields Limited (CCL) workshop in Barkakana under Ramgarh district.

He lived alone in the house after his wife went to the village before lockdown.

As per the plan, the son reached Barkana on November 17 and made an attempt to kill his father but failed as some of Krishna’s friends had come to meet him.

The next day, Bhola Ram reached his father’s home before him in the night and hid in it.

When his father returned home and went to sleep, Bhola Ram went inside and attacked him with a hammer-like weapon which knocked him out.

To leave nothing to chance, Bhola Ram slit his father’s throat with a kitchen knife and left.

According to the police, after the killing, Bholaram took the bicycle of his father and went to Barkanana bus stand to reach Ranchi.

He went to his in-laws’ house and finally reached his native place in Aurangabad on the same day on November 19, 2020.

The SDPO added that a Special Task Force (STF) was formed which succeeded in completing the investigations.

They located the accused with the help of a technical cell and the accused was arrested within 72 hours of the crime on November 21, 2020.
