"Relive the reincarnation."
Rakesh Roshan’s Karan Arjun (1995) is a classic Bollywood blockbuster that uniquely intertwined family and reincarnation.
In exciting news for fans, the film is set to return to cinemas.
The movie narrated the story of Durga Singh (Raakhee), who is devastated after her sons Karan (Salman Khan) and Arjun (Shah Rukh Khan) are killed by the sadistic Durjan Singh (Amrish Puri).
She demands that her sons be returned to them, using the famous phrase: “Mere Karan-Arjun aayenge!” (My Karan-Arjun will come!).
Her prayers are miraculously answered, and her sons are reborn as Ajay and Vijay (also played by Salman and Shah Rukh, respectively).
Karan Arjun also featured Kajol (Sonia Saxena) and Mamta Kulkarni (Bindiya) as the female leads.
The film was the first movie to star Salman and SRK together onscreen.
The original choices for the titular characters were Ajay Devgn and SRK, but when things did not materialise, Rakesh approached Aamir Khan and Salman.
While Salman Khan agreed to do the film, Aamir could not be confirmed. Shah Rukh then returned to the project.
Rakesh’s son, Hrithik Roshan, worked as an assistant director on the sets of the film.
Announcing the re-release of the film, Rakesh Roshan tweeted a teaser, writing:
“Witness the reincarnation across the globe in cinema halls.”

Salman Khan also tweeted: “Raakhee Ji said in the film that her Karan-Arjun would come…in cinemas across the world!”
Kajol also posted: “Icons and iconic films are coming back! Karan Arjun is coming back to cinemas worldwide.”
Hrithik Roshan tweeted: “Cinema was never the same again.
“When Karan Arjun came together on the big screen for the first time ever.
“Relive the reincarnation of Karan and Arjun in theatres worldwide.”
Speaking about the film, in a previous interview, Rakesh said:
“My friends and my technicians in the crew argued that such kind of plot won’t be digested.
“In love stories, it was digested before. But with Karan Arjun, it was more about a mother-son bond with a touch of reincarnation.
“But I had full belief in the subject.”
“I argued that when a mother, whose sons were brutally killed, says that, ‘Mere bete aayenge’, even if they would have come from Mars or Jupiter, it would have been accepted.”
It was accepted powerfully and unforgettably as the film became the second-highest Bollywood grosser of 1995.
For that, it remains one of Indian cinema’s best mother-son dramas.
After this movie, Salman and Shah Rukh appeared in several movies together, including Kuch Kuch Hota Hai (1998), Hum Tumhare Hain Sanam (2002), and Pathaan (2023).
Karan Arjun is scheduled to be re-released worldwide on November 22, 2024.
