"we are ecstatic to expand this franchise into theatres"
The crime thriller series Mirzapur will hit theatres as a film adaptation is in the works.
Mirzapur explores power dynamics and the criminal underworld in northern India’s heartland.
Series creator Puneet Krishna will be at the helm while Gurmmeet Singh, who directed 17 episodes of the series, will direct the film.
A teaser was released, announcing the news.
The adaptation represents one of the first instances of an Indian streaming series transitioning to a theatrical release.
Mirzapur The Film will feature the return of the show’s lead cast, including Pankaj Tripathi as Kaleen Bhaiya, Ali Fazal as Guddu Pandit, and Divyenndu as Munna Tripathi.
Abhishek Banerjee is also confirmed to reprise his role as the Compounder.
The film is scheduled for a theatrical release in 2026.
Following its theatrical run, Mirzapur The Film will stream on Amazon Prime Video across 240 territories.
The move comes in the wake of Mirzapur season 3’s record-breaking performance on the streaming platform. Season 4, which is in development, will happen after the film’s release.
