“He had pasted a detailed to-do list"

In a tragic incident, a software engineer committed suicide at his home in Marathahalli, Bengaluru.

Atul Subhash’s body was found by police and on his T-shirt, a sheet of paper reading “Justice is Due” was attached.

Officers also found a 24-page note that allegedly blamed his wife and her family for driving him to take the extreme step.

Police said Atul was suffering from depression.

Before taking his own life, Atul sent a message to an NGO, which deals with domestic abuse by women, telling them he was ending his life.

A group member saw the message and alerted the police. Officers rushed to the property where they found Atul’s body.

In his suicide note, Atul said his wife, Nikita Singhania, had falsely filed nine cases against him, including murder, sexual misconduct, domestic violence and dowry harassment.

Atul reportedly separated from Nikita as a result.

The note also called for his parents to be given custody of his child.

Police said: “He had pasted a detailed to-do list before ending his life, and titled it ‘Final task before Mukti’ and pasted it on a cupboard in the room.

“It also had instructions on where his death note and keys were kept, along with a list of completed and pending tasks over two days.”

The note claimed Atul faced harassment and extortion from his wife and her family.

Atul Subhash also recorded a video before his suicide, stating that in addition to his wife and her family, a family court judge in Jaunpur was also to blame.

After Atul’s family were informed, his brother Bikas Kumar filed a police complaint against Nikita, her mother, her brother and her uncle, accusing them of filing false complaints and demanding Rs 3 Crore to drop the cases.

Police said a case has been registered and an investigation is underway.

The incident has sparked a debate about justice for men in India and attention has turned to Nikita Singhania’s workplace.

She is an AI engineering consultant at Accenture.

Many are outraged at Accenture for continuing to employ Nikita, with one X user demanding:

“Dear Accenture, you have 24 hours to fire the murderer of Atul Subhash. Your time starts now.”

Another wrote: “Accenture, remove this woman from whatever position she holds.”

Journalist Nupur Sharma said: “The wife should be arrested and thrown in jail.

“The judge who sat by and laughed, mocked, and refused to deliver justice should be prosecuted and impeached.

“What is wrong with women downplaying the death of Atul Subhash?”

“The laws that force men like Atul Subhash to end their lives as the only way out of the extortion and harassment need to change.”
