Urmila feared that her marriage would not go ahead.

A police case was registered after a couple found their future daughter-in-law dead inside their house.

The incident happened in the village of Dandakesa in Jharkhand.

The matter came to light during the evening of Thursday, April 23, 2020, when the family members entered the room and found their future daughter-in-law hanging from the ceiling fan.

The deceased was identified as Urmila Kumari, an 18-year-old living in Bharno. She was set to marry a young man named Hosna Oraon.

Urmila had been staying at her soon-to-be in-law’s house when she committed suicide.

Her marriage was arranged for April 30, 2020, however, the ongoing lockdown made that an uncertainty.

Urmila feared that her marriage would not go ahead. As a result, she started living with her future in-laws at their house.

On April 23, locals heard that there had been a suicide in the village.

The family members had gone into Urmila’s room where they found her body. They immediately informed the police.

They explained that when they entered the room, their future daughter-in-law was dead.

They revealed that she had used a dupatta to hang herself.

Villagers told officers that Urmila had been living in the village for a week before her death.

Officer Siddheswar Singh confirmed that a case had been registered and that officers are investigating the matter closely.

Meanwhile, the body was sent for a post-mortem.

Officer Singh said that while the case looks to be a suicide, they are not ruling out the possibility of murder. Both angles are being looked at.

The cause of Urmila’s death will be revealed once the post-mortem results have been revealed.

There have been a number of cases of marriage-related suicides in India.

In one instance, a young woman and her lover took their own lives just days before she was supposed to get married.

The Government Railway Police (GRP) learnt that a 20-year-old man had been on an English speaking course when he got to know a young woman from another village.

They took a liking to one another and they eventually began a relationship.

Despite meeting regularly, the couple could not marry as their parents would not allow it. They belonged to different castes.

Meanwhile, the girl’s parents arranged for her to get married on March 12, 2020. The Indian girl did not want to get married to another man.

A police investigation revealed that the only person she wanted to marry was her lover, however, she knew that their different castes prevented them from doing so.

She then decided to take her own life.

On Tuesday, March 3, 2020, the young woman sneaked out of her home and met with her boyfriend.

They agreed to take their own lives since they could not get married. The lovers went to a railway track and jumped in front of a train.
