The Indian girl did not want to get married to another man.
Just days before she was supposed to get married, an Indian girl took her own life. The incident happened in the city of Karnal, Haryana.
It was also discovered that the young woman’s lover committed suicide.
The young woman was set to get married on March 12, 2020, but she did not want to go through with it. Therefore, she and her lover decided to take their own lives.
The Government Railway Police (GRP) learnt that a 20-year-old man had been on an English speaking course when he got to know a young woman from another village.
They took a liking to one another and they eventually began a relationship.
Despite meeting regularly, the couple could not marry as their parents would not allow it. They belonged to different castes.
Meanwhile, the girl’s parents arranged for her to get married on March 12, 2020.
The Indian girl did not want to get married to another man.
A police investigation revealed that the only person she wanted to marry was her lover, however, she knew that their different castes prevented them from doing so.
She then decided to take her own life.
On Tuesday, March 3, 2020, the young woman sneaked out of her home and met with her boyfriend.
They agreed to take their own lives since they could not get married.
The lovers went to a railway track and jumped in front of a train.
At around 10 pm, the young man’s body was discovered near Bhaini Khurd village by a passerby who then alerted the GRP. The bodies were identified and both families were told.
They reached the railway track and confirmed that the deceased were their relatives.
Investigators believe that the man and woman left their homes at around 7 pm to meet.
Post-mortems were conducted before both bodies were handed over to their respective families.
Having heard about their relationship, both families returned to their homes but did not talk about the relationship.
In a similar case of wedding-related suicide, a woman from Patiala, Punjab, took her own life a day after her wedding.
Ritu got married to a man named Rajinder Kumar. The day after, she complained of a headache.
Rajinder had been at work at the time. He returned home and gave her some medicine. He advised her to get some rest before he returned to work.
Ritu’s mother-in-law also went out to run errands.
A short while later, the Indian bride got up and tied one end of a scarf to the ceiling fan. She tied the other end around her neck and stood up on a chair.
When Rajinder returned home from work that evening, he found his wife hanging from the ceiling fan.
After the police were called, the deceased’s father told them that his daughter had been suffering from mental health issues.
