A student was found dead at her home after committing suicide. It was later revealed that she was a gaming addict.

Her friends told police that her name was Ashmita and that she was a student undertaking a fashion designing course.

The incident came to light on Sunday, December 15, 2019, in Chandigarh.

Ashmita was found hanging from the ceiling fan. However, officers could not find a suicide note.

It was reported that her friends had called her at around 11 am but Ashmita did not pick up the phone. They went to her house and knocked on the door but no one answered.

They also discovered that the door had been locked from the inside. When they looked through the window, they saw Ashmita’s body hanging from the fan.

Police were immediately alerted. They broke down the door and brought her down.

Officers registered a case of suicide but were unable to find a suicide note.

Ashmita’s friends told officers that she was a gaming addict and over the past four months, she rarely left the house as she was busy playing games.

They said she was constantly playing free online games on her mobile.

On December 14, 2019, Ashmita’s friends went to her house to ask if she wanted to go out.

Ashmita had told them that she is busy playing and told them not to disturb her. They later left.

While police have registered a case of suicide, an investigation is ongoing and police have come up with two main possibilities, which may have led to her suicide.

They suggested that her gaming addiction had led to Ashmita becoming depressed.

Officers also believe that her death may be linked to the Blue Whale Challenge, which may not be as prominent as it once was in 2017 but is still a possibility.

It was a disturbing internet game where teenagers ended up taking their own lives.

Believed to have originated in Russia, the Blue Whale Challenge originates from the belief that blue whales voluntarily wash up on shore to die.

In the challenge, “masters” encourage teenagers to undergo a series of tasks over 50 days. Tasks set by the anonymous master include cutting a body part and avoiding conversation for an entire day.

On the final day, their final order is for their victim to take their own life.

It was a challenge, which caused fear that it would spread to other countries.

Following Ashmita’s death, police suspect that she may have been a victim of the dangerous challenge especially since there was no note.
