"Was not expecting such humoured self-awareness.”

Aryan Khan won hearts with his preview of The Ba***ds of Bollywood, with a major talking point being the apparent reference to his arrest.

A star-studded evening saw Shah Rukh Khan introduce his son as a director. Aryan impressed audiences with his humility and vision, while the preview itself drew strong reactions online.

Starring Lakshya, Sahher Bambba, Bobby Deol and Raghav Juyal, the show has already been praised as bold, raw and fresh.

Viewers called it the definition of “good original content” with many highlighting Aryan’s clever jail reference.

The trailer begins with Lakshya as Aasmaan Singh, opposite Sahher Bambba, whose character is the daughter of Bobby Deol’s Ajay Talvar, a superstar.

Cameos from Karan Johar, Salman Khan and Ranveer Singh add humour and glamour.

But the scene that sparked the most reaction comes towards the end.

Lakshya’s character is jailed, and a police officer tells him: “People become more famous after being locked up.”

The frame then cuts to reveal: Written and directed by Aryan Khan.

Netizens immediately linked the moment to Aryan’s own jail experience, where he was arrested on a cruise ship in a drugs case.

Others suggested it reflected a wider truth about celebrity culture.

But all agreed it was a bold and memorable choice.

One impressed viewer commented: “That was lowkey good one… Haha, Aryan doing a self-deprecating joke… Just like how SRK does with himself.”

Another wrote: “Was not expecting such humoured self-awareness.”

A third added: “Might be half the Bollywood too but kudos to Aryan for keeping this dialogue and not taking it personally.”

Meanwhile, one person speculated: “Could be two things.

“A dig at how Bollywood copies Hollywood and a tribute to the Parsi community’s exemplary contribution to Hindi cinema.”

The response to Aryan’s directorial skills was also overwhelmingly positive.

One viewer wrote: “If someone watches it randomly, they would never be able to guess that it’s a directional debut.

“Shots, sets, casting are all blended so smoothly!!”

Another added: “It gives Hollywood-level vibes man! Can’t wait for this show.

With such reception, anticipation for Aryan Khan’s directorial debut is at a high. The Ba***ds of Bollywood premieres on Netflix on September 18.
