“I will never go here again."
An Indian woman says her “most expensive” lunch in Paris turned out to be her worst.
Ishwarya, one half of the UK-based Tamil travel vlogging couple ‘Make Travel Easy’, shared her review on YouTube.
She and her husband, Sakthi, create content aimed at “inspiring and guiding Tamil-speaking audiences to travel independently, budget effectively, and explore the world with confidence.”
The couple visited Le Jules Verne, a two-Michelin-starred restaurant on the Eiffel Tower’s second floor.
Ishwarya had high expectations, but in her review, she said the bread was too hard to eat, while her starter arrived cold.
On Instagram, she wrote: “I will never go here again. The most expensive lunch I had turned out like this.”
She was seated next to an 82-year-old woman from New Zealand, who also shared her complaints about the bread.
When Ishwarya asked if soft bread was available, the server said no.
She rated the starter 2 out of 10, the main course 7 out of 10, and the dessert 1 out of 10, calling it “overwhelmingly creamy”.
In her vlog, Ishwarya explained she assisted the elderly woman after the meal.
She explained: “She was struggling, so I helped her go to a nearby supermarket to get some biscuits and then escorted her back to her hotel because she was unable to go by herself.”
Le Jules Verne receives generally positive reviews, holding a 4.2-star rating on TripAdvisor and 4.5 on Google.
The Michelin Guide commends it for “delicate, perfectly judged dishes boasting flavour combinations that are always on point”.
Visitors frequently praise its panoramic views and service.
One guest wrote: “The food was absolutely fantastic with unique flavours. The service was top notch and we were treated like royalty.”
While Ishwarya’s comments resonated with some, others on social media suggested she misunderstood French dining.
One wrote:
“You don’t go to such a fine restaurant if you’re not used to the French cuisine!”
Another said: “European breads are supposed to be hard… not all breads are soft… there are so many different types of breads.”
A third added: “It’s supposed to dip and eat in soup so it’s usually hard.”
One comment read: “Baguette is supposed to be hard.”
