“It's not for me; I don't like it.”
A British vlogger’s honest reaction to a local Indian drink has gone viral on Instagram.
Deanna, a digital creator who posts as @sociallywanderful, recently shared a video of her trying masala soda at a street stall in Palakkad, Kerala.
Titled “First time trying masala soda in Kerala, India”, the reel has attracted thousands of views and sparked lively discussion online.
In the video, Deanna is joined by fellow vlogger Abhnav Reddy. The pair visit a drinks stall where the vendor mixes soda with a pre-made masala blend before serving it to them in tall glasses.
Deanna takes a sip and appears visibly surprised by the taste. She frowns, drawing laughs from others nearby.
A voice off-camera says: “But she doesn’t like.”
Deanna responds with a smile and replies: “It’s not for me; I don’t like it.”
In the caption, she explained her reaction: “As you can tell, it was not my cup of tea – the flavours were STRONG.
“And not a drink I would typically order. But it was definitely good to try it.
“If you get the opportunity, I would recommend trying it once… but it’s a unique flavour and definitely not for everyone.”
The clip is one of many examples of foreign influencers exploring Indian street culture.
While food videos remain popular, drinks like masala soda are now gaining more attention for their bold, regional flavours.

Deanna’s candid take was praised for its respectful tone. Many users commented that her reaction was fair and good-humoured.
One commented: “All part of the experience.”
Another said: “I love that you still tried it, though!”
A third added: “Your reaction is precious.”
Praising the vlogger for tasting the drink, one person said: “Well, at least you tried.”
After seeing Deanna try masala soda, some were hesitant to taste the drink themselves.
A comment read:
“I will try most foods and drinks, but this is making me question that.”
Finding the video hysterical, a viewer wrote:
“Hahah, your expressions are killing me, that’s a no for me to try.”
India’s street drinks, from masala soda in the South to kanji in the North, are deeply tied to local traditions.
