West Yorkshire police officer Amjad Ditta, aged 35, of Halifax, is one of 16 men who have been charged as part of an investigation into child sexual exploitation.
Ditta, a police constable within West Yorkshire Police’s Protective Services Operations, has been charged with sexual touching.
The other 15 men, all from Halifax, have been charged with several offences including rape, sexual activity with a child, trafficking and drug offences.
The 16 men were accused of committing the offences against three girls between 2006 and 2009.
At the time of the alleged offences, the girls were aged between 13 and 16-years-old.
Ditta, also known as Amjad Hussain, was a serving police officer when he allegedly committed the offence.
Following the allegations, he has been suspended from duty.
In 2016, Ditta had been appointed by West Yorkshire Police in a bid to boost the numbers of ethnic minority people applying to join the force.
Home Office figures showed that 5.1% of officers in the force from a BAME background, compared to the national average of 5.5%.
Census figures in 2011 showed the country’s BAME population as 18.2%.
Ditta had said that the force should reflect the community it serves. He said:
“I’m interested in people in wanting to know what experiences they have had.
“What is stopping them from applying? Because now in 2016 we’ve got a wide range of communities.”
