A scientist has claimed to have invented ‘Viagra for women’ in what could be a groundbreaking discovery in the medical world.

Viagra remains a popular product among men in the UK. Statistics show that over half of men aged between 40 and 70 suffer from erectile dysfunction (ED).

A King’s College London study found that one in five men in the UK experience ED, with the likelihood increasing with age. Viagra works by increasing blood flow to the penis during sexual arousal, achieved by relaxing blood vessels in the chest.

The so-called ‘Viagra for women’ works differently. It targets arousal in women, particularly those over 50, following positive trial results.

Dr Iona Weir invented Myregyna as a skin-based, non-hormonal product for post-menopausal women dealing with biological changes to their bodies.

According to its website, Myregyna can support “urinary tract health and comfort” and the “natural lubrication and resilience of the genital area”.

It also claims to increase sensation during intercourse.

The New Zealand scientist said the product “improves sexual response and sexual function” as shown by trial results.

She pointed out: “It actually boosts natural hydration, men got Viagra, but women got nothing, right?

“This is going to be the first non-hormonal treatment that will give you your sex life back.”

Her firm, Weir Science, projects annual sales of the plant-based drug could reach over £7.5 billion.

The product aims to reverse the effects of Genitourinary Syndrome of Menopause (GSM), caused by a decline in estrogen production.

Symptoms include vaginal dryness, painful intercourse, and urinary urgency and frequency, all of which can affect sexual function.

Dr Weir said a clinical trial of Kiwi women over 55 produced promising results.

Some participants who had not had sex in years were now having regular sex and orgasms without pain.

While it can benefit sex lives, the cell biologist insists that it is not its sole purpose.

She explained that you’ll be able “to go to a disco” or do “whatever you want to do,” as women will be able to “enjoy life again” after menopause with the product.

It is believed Dr Weir is in talks with two global drug firms. She is also undergoing the registration process with the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
