"It was either him or us. As simple as that.”
Canada-based gangster Goldy Brar has spoken out about Sidhu Moose Wala’s murder, over three years after he was first accused of orchestrating the killing.
In a rare interview as part of the BBC documentary The Killing Call, Brar gave a cold and unapologetic explanation for his role.
When asked why he killed Sidhu Moose Wala, Brar said the singer’s actions left him and his associates “no choice”.
Brar said: “He crossed lines he shouldn’t have.
“We had no option but to kill him. He had to face the consequences of his actions. It was either him or us. As simple as that.”
The fatal attack took place on a May afternoon in 2022 near Moose Wala’s native village in Punjab’s Mansa district.
Sidhu Moose Wala was in his black Mahindra Thar when two vehicles reportedly followed him.
One swerved to block his SUV, and gunmen opened fire. Moose Wala was shot multiple times and found slumped in the driver’s seat.
Brar claimed the dispute began over a kabaddi tournament in a village linked to their rivals.
“He was promoting people we were at odds with. That didn’t sit well with Lawrence [Bishnoi] and the others.
“They warned him, told him to stay away, but he didn’t.”
The feud had briefly eased thanks to Vikramjit Singh Middukhera, also known as Vicky, a Youth Akali Dal leader and associate of Bishnoi.
However, Middukhera was shot dead in broad daylight on August 7, 2021, in Mohali and Brar suggested the killing was connected to Moosewala.
He continued: “Everyone knew what part Sidhu had in that.
“Cops knew it; even journalists knew it. But nobody acted because of his political clout and money.
“We waited for justice. We waited for someone to take action. When no one did, we acted.
“He should’ve faced legal consequences. Jail, not fame.”
When asked why he did not pursue legal channels, Brar dismissed the Indian legal system.
“Justice doesn’t exist for people like us; only the powerful get it. I’m glad I didn’t beg politicians for help like others.”
Referring to Middukhera, he said:
“Vicky tried doing things the legal way. You can ask him yourself how that ended.”
Goldy Brar, believed to be linked to the Lawrence Bishnoi gang, has publicly claimed responsibility for Sidhu Moose Wala’s murder.
He was declared a terrorist by India’s Ministry of Home Affairs on January 1, 2024, under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA). The notice cited his involvement in cross-border arms smuggling and links to the banned Babbar Khalsa International group.
Despite ongoing investigations, no convictions have been made, and Brar remains at large.
