"we've made something beautiful with what we had."
The cast and crew of Daghabaaz Dil have eagerly discussed the film’s forthcoming release as the sole local offering this Eid-ul-Fitr.
Director Wajahat Rauf divulged insights into the film’s rapid production.
It was completed within a mere three months after being presented with the script in December 2023.
When he started making the film, the makers were told there were around four films set for an Eid release.
Wajahat said: “There was one with Farhan Saeed, I think.
“The intention wasn’t that we would be the only ones making the film; the intention was we’ll make the best one.
“Had we also given up and not made Daghabaaz Dil, then we wouldn’t even have one local film hitting the theatres this year.”
Producer Shazia Wajahat added: “If it were up to Wajahat, he would single-handedly want to revive the Pakistani film industry.”
The film’s leading actors, Mehwish Hayat and Ali Rehman Khan, echoed these sentiments.
Mehwish stated: “It’s so necessary.
“We need to make more quality work. I understand that the budgeting might be a constraint, but the content shall always prevail.
“Even in this film, we didn’t have a free flow of funds, but I think we’ve made something beautiful with what we had.
“I believe it’s not about the budget but the content, and how it’s acted in and directed.
“If we make more films that are picked up by international film festivals, then we get global recognition, and the makers get that satisfaction as well. It’s a win-win situation.”
Ali highlighted the need for local content to be recognised internationally is of the utmost importance.
He said: “It’s bigger than all of us.
“Films like ours, the masala films, are not going to reach international festivals.
“But small-budgeted films, with independent filmmakers, do have that chance where they can make a buzz worldwide.”
Momin Saqib, making his debut in the film industry, commended the director-producer duo for fostering a supportive and collaborative environment on set.
He expressed palpable excitement for his multifaceted character, which seamlessly blends elements of comedy and romance.
Despite the inherent nerves that accompany any cinematic endeavour, Momin highlighted the intrinsic joy derived from the filmmaking process itself.
He prioritised the sheer enjoyment of creation over preconceived notions of success or failure.
The collective optimism shared by the team shows their unwavering belief in the film’s potential to captivate audiences.
On what to expect from Daghabaaz Dil, Mehwish said:
“The film has songs, dances, a big-fat Punjabi wedding.
“It’s a formula that has worked well for us and the audience on Eid likes to come out with their families and watch these films.”
“We’ve added an additional element of supernatural bodies and I think that could intrigue the audience.”
On social media, a user said: “So excited for the film!”
One commented: “Ali Rehman and Mehwish are a great on-screen couple. The film will be great because of them.”
Another said: “The trailer looked so good. Plus Momin Saqib will be a great new addition on screen.”
