"my mother wanted me to go for medical studies."
As he prepares to turn 25, YouTuber CarryMinati reflected on his journey, revealing his parents were initially against his career.
Known off-camera as Ajey Nagar, CarryMinati has carved a niche for himself in the digital realm over the past decade.
He has amassed a staggering 41.4 million YouTube subscribers.
Despite his monumental success, Carry’s aspirations were modest in the beginning.
He said: “My expectations were nothing.
“I only wanted 50K subscribers, a room to play my games in, and enough money to buy new games and create content.”
However, with fame came new challenges.
As his channel gained traction, Carry found himself grappling with the weight of expectations and the fear of judgment when venturing outside.
He continued: “Now, I have to cater to expectations.
“I struggle with that, as I do with getting out of the house. I have the fear that once I am outdoors, I will be judged, or that even if I eat, I will have 10 people staring at me.”
Additionally, the pressure of remaining relatable to his audience is something that adds to his burden.
He explained: “I can’t make content if I don’t relate to people.
“For that, I need to have a normal life. If there’s a disconnect, it’ll all fail.”
CarryMinati’s YouTube journey was not without its hurdles as his parents were initially against his career choice.
His mother is a doctor, his father a lawyer and his late grandfather was a prominent political figure.
CarryMinati said: “Initially, my parents weren’t with me.
“After 10th, my mother wanted me to go for medical studies.
“I knew I couldn’t do it. So, I said, ‘Buy me a PC’, and chose arts.”
Constructive criticism has played a pivotal role in Carry’s growth as a content creator.
While he takes criticism seriously, he acknowledged that not all feedback holds value.
Carry elaborated:
“I take criticism seriously, but only if it has value to it. Otherwise, I just really don’t have the time.”
Approaching his 25th birthday, Carry has embraced the uncertainties that lie ahead.
He reflects: “My thing has changed. Now I have to make choices.
“I can’t predict how the conditions will change.”
As CarryMinati continues to captivate audiences with his unique brand of content, his journey serves as an inspiration to aspiring creators, demonstrating the power of passion, perseverance, and authenticity in achieving one’s dreams.
